Macarthur Place is ideally located within walking distance of the historic centre of Sonoma and lots of local wineries. We booked a king deluxe room and it was large and very comfortable. Grounds are lovely, beautifully landscaped with a nice pool, hot tub and spa and they have a complimentary cheese and wine tasting in the library each evening. We ate in Saddles restaurant at the hotel twice and it has the best steak. Breakfast in the morning is continental buffet style and has a good selection or you can order a la carte for an additional cost. The hotel is expensive but we would definitely stay again if we were in the Sonoma area. Ask for a quiet room away from the road, as we did, as the main highway 12 road is close by.

Room Tip: We requested an upper floor room away from the road and that's what we got. Rooms are built in s...

Just got back from wine country last night. This hotel is very comfortable. The wins and cheese in the library each night is a nice touch. Place to unwind and meet folks visiting. The women pouring the wine was helpful with wine tips but also introduced people visiting from the same state.
The rooms were very nice. Quiet place and nearby to the town and wineries.Great location.
The complimentary continental breakfast was also nice.

Room Tip: All rooms are convenient. Only 4 rooms to each building.Everything is clode to the library, front de...

We stayed 5 nights in one of the spa suites & everything & everybody was wonderful. The room was very large & very private. The bed was very comfortable & the sheet very soft. Although the bed was very high so you almost needed steps. We had 2 showers one outside & one inside & 2 tubs one inside & one outside. We had a private sitting area out back that had beautiful flowers including the very fragrant lavender. The wine barrel tub outside was very romantic & had heating lamp if it was cold & a view of your own waterfall. There was a flat screen TV with surround sound & a working fireplace.
Continental breakfast was included every morning & everything was fresh & tasty. The fruit was so fresh that I swear they just picked everything out back. The food at the restaurant was very good & reasonable but even if you do not have a car you can walk to town. Wine & cheese is offered every night from 5-6pm & everything was very good & plentiful. The wine is served in the library was has tons of books & videos that you can borrow for free.
All of the staff at MacArthur are very friendly & they make you feel at home. Then there is AJ at cat who comes out every morning to stroll the property & greet the guests.
They have a small spa which was nice for a scrub & massage but would not recommend a facial (nothing special).

Room Tip: There are only a few spa rooms so book early.

My husband I travel extensively for pleasure and business and have stayed at many five star hotels. This by far, was the most expensive hotel but didn't offer anything above and beyond other exclusive hotels/ resorts we have stayed. After looking at the menu in the restaurant we decided to eat elsewhere in Sonoma. We stayed two nights and on our second night had much difficulty finding parking after dinner because the hotel was hosting an event.

The fitness center did have state of the art equipment and the breakfast was delicious.

This is a wonderful place to stay while you are visiting all the winiers. Large, clean rooms, friendly staff, good continial breakfast, free, or just order off the menu for a fair price. In the afternoon the wine and cheese tasting is very nice, you can even get it to go back to your room or out on the patio. I urge you to try this great place out.

Room Tip: WE are 2 seniors that got a standard king, room 27, on the ground floor and very quite. Our daughte...

We stayed in MacArthur Place in September with a group of friends whilst travelling around California, Nevada and Arizona. We stayed in the Elm Lodge and the rooms were the best we had on our holiday. All the lodges were centred around an amazing pool, hot tub and gym/spa. The gardens were really well kept and there were plenty of outside seating areas to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The room and bathroom were both spacious and clean. Each night we had our beds turned down and the blinds drawn. A chocolate and update on the weather forecast for the next day was left on your pillow. We ate in Saddles restaurant and the food was very good. It was a tad expensive and the menu did not offer much choice for vegetarians. Breakfast was continental with yoghurt and fresh fruit. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who is staying in the valley.
If you are planning to go into the centre of Sonoma it is a good 15 minute walk.

We stayed at the MacArthur Place in Sonoma August 2012. The cottage was the nicest we/ve stayed in. The grounds were beautiful. The staff were very helpful. It was a fantastic "hidden" gem. We loved it.

Room Tip: Pick a room overlooking the gardens
