Marble Mountain Ranch - Family Guest Ranch
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 22, 2012

We took our family of 10 (ourselves, children, and grandrenchildren, (ages 10-16)) to Marble Mountain Guest Ranch a week ago for a family vacation together. Everyone raved about the fun experience and wants very much to return again. Our children and grandchildren loved all the adventures from horseback trail riding, white water rafting shooting, archery, kayaking, zip line and just being together. The Cole family and staff took care of everything, so all we had to do was have fun. They maintained a great balance between safety and the enjoyment of all the adventures. Special care was made for each of us per our needs. Heide's delicious meals were great. We highly recommend her cookbook. My wife is now using her receipe book for excellent tasty dinners since coming home. The Cole family is very friendly and a perfect examle of great family life togeher. We most highly recommend the Marble Mlountain Guest Ranch as an excellent choice for a family adventure vacation.

We are finally back in Australia after an amazing US trip.
The highlight was absolutely Marble Mountain Ranch - for our kids and us adults.
All I can do is add a our very loud "hear hear" to the reviews below by Bill, Susanna and Elizabeth! What a trip!- every actitivity was not to be missed.
Every single person we met was wonderful, kind, warm , helpful and friendly, every bite of food was beyond delicious!
Team Petey was the best rafting experience for us....... the river is beautiful.
Who knew I could shoot a semi-automatic pistol, rifle and a shotgun? Not this Aussie city girl! Thanks Adam and Jason!
The horses were fantastic and Chelsea and Danik and Danielle got us all alot further than we'd have thought possible! Those trails are incomparable.
Karaoke - well what can I say? Hilarious fun!
We found the other guests great fun and made some lifelong friends from the other side of the world - how great is that?
A big thanks and all our love. Heidi and Doug, you have an amazing family and we were touched by your values and family attitudes.
Lily and Ned already have us saving for a return trip!
Total "more than once in a lifetime"holiday!

Hi Emma, what wonderful comments, and thank you for your thoughts on our family. I often reflect on the difficulty of working with a spouse, or a child or sibling. Yet, somehow, we make it work with about 12 primary family members and spouses in the labor pool and in close proximity. I think the secret is to maintain peace in the ranks, and all else can be worked out! It also helps that we are passionate about our life in the wilderness, and passionate about sharing it. Thanks again for your comments, and we look forward to your return.

Thank you for the wonderful week on the ranch! Heather, Stephanie and I enjoyed every moment of our time learning how to ride, rafting on the river, taking on the challenge of the waterfall hike, and trying out some shooting and archery. The food was delicious and the surroundings beautiful. Your family and staff are first rate. You have managed to create just the right balance of safety without losing the spirit of adventure. Thank you, too, for the special birthday celebration during the week - for awhile I thought your new grand baby and I might share the same date! We drove away on Saturday afternoon with thoughts of how and when we might be able to return.

Hi Janette, thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate your comment about balancing safety and the preservation of the adventure. We certainly cannot eliminate all the risk of rafting, trail riding, arena games, kayaking, or even just being outdoors. So I am glad to here you recognize our efforts at "managed risk" while preserving the essential nature of the sports and activities. The waterfall hike is a perfect example. The arduous nature of the hike prevents many from participating, but we encourage all who are capable.

I hope you and your family can join us again. What a great group you all are! The best to you from all of us at Marble Mountain Ranch.

Marble Mountain Ranch....the perfect setting to celebrate our special occasion with the entire family.

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and "right at home". Our cabins were comfortable and very clean, the food was exceptionally prepared and delicious, and the planned activities were exciting and suited to all age groups. The spacious grounds were natural and attractive, with room for the children to play and explore. We enjoyed the horseback riding, the shooting range, the white water rafting, the fishing....we simply enjoyed it all.

Doug and Heidi Cole, and their family and staff made our family vacation a wonderful and unforgettable experience. None of us wanted to leave......and we have all promised ourselves a return visit.

Thank you, Bill, for the kind comments and the thoughtful review. You bring up an important point for us: family! Our lifestyle choice has been choreographed to allow working with family from all of our living generations. Our target audience is also families (of all sizes and configurations), and we work diligently to try and blend your family with ours during your visit into our home/business. So - the upside to this can be the close bonding of our families in shared adventures - but then you also have to endure the Cole family candor, dry humor, and sometimes glaring quirks injected into your family dynamic! As you saw, it usually works out amazingly well.

Another fun perk for us on this point of "family" is the constantly growing list for Christmas card mailings and the ever increasing connect in social media.

So, I will hold you to your word - and we look forward to another visit from your family in the future.

Best Regards, Doug and Heidi, Peter and the gang.

We wanted an outdoor experience that would provide fun and stimulating activities for adults and teens but not so "rustic" that would turn off two families of city slickers and suburbanites. Well, the Cole family at Marble Mountain Ranch provided everything we wanted and more! After talking to Heidi about our family's needs, we were assigned an attractive, clean & very comfortable cabin. All the food provided, including snacks, was fresh and delicious, and we really appreciated the extra effort the kitchen staff made to provide tasty vegetarian versions of everything for our three non-meat, non-fish eaters. (I am still craving the homemade, warm apple kolaches! Will have to try making those myself from Heidi's cookbook.)
The variety of activities was excellent and it didn't matter if you were a beginner or experienced rider, shooter, rafter, kayaker, etc. since the staff really listened and took care to provide the right amount of instruction for each activity. I was very impressed that we got to experience the "real" challenges and rewards of the different activities...No coddling the tourists! (My husband said Peter wasn't exaggerating at all about the hike to the waterfall. It is extremely difficult, but well worth the reward if you reach the end!) On the other hand, the Cole family and staff are very professional and knowledgeable, and I am also just as impressed with their attention to our safety at all times.
Of course, all this would still be lacking if not for the warm, friendly, caring, wonderful Cole family. Doug has a great dry sense of humor and knows so much about Marble Mountain and surrounding areas. Heidi is wonderful and such a trooper to work so hard even with an injured leg. Our families bonded with always smiling Peter on our raft trips and he was so great with our teens. Chelsea was so sweet and we loved having her, Heidi, Danielle & Danick (I'm sure I just mangled the last spelling) helped us in the arena and the beautiful trails. You won't find better shooting guides than Jason and Adam, and Aaron was so helpful in several different areas. Cierra has a beautiful voice and our best wishes to her and Jason on their new baby coming real soon! Did I leave anyone out? If I did, I'll just have to add them to the next review after we come back with even more family members!

Hi Susanna, Thank you for the marvelous and thorough review! I think the only person left out was Jeff, our kitchen help and landscape tech. Oh yea, you forgot Scout, Sakari, Lottie, and Anuk, the 4 K9 queens of the Klamath - the purgers of squirrels, soilers of persian rugs, slayers of loose chickens, and cabin porch monitors.
We also enjoyed your group. The diet constraints can indeed be an additional layer of work for the crew, but we consider the cuisine to rank in number two position, following behind our efforts at risk management. I am glad it worked for you with the special meals. As an aside, I get some personal fun out of dressing up cowboy and shopping the "hippy-groovey" health food store for tofu burgers, gluten free tortillas and the like. I just blend so well with the other patrons! Such Fun!

We look forward to your returns, Doug

We just got back from Marble Mountain Ranch and our kids are still raving. They did not want to leave and we parents had as much fun as the kids. If you only experience one Dude Ranch, this should be it! Perfect combination of activities geared to various ranges of level and experience. A warm, wonderful family of three-generations hosting who truly enjoy sharing their love of the area and fabulous food. Buy Heide's cookbook! Beautiful scenery and the opportunity to see wildlife from bald eagles to bear. All the horses are well-trained and a pleasure to ride on the trail or in the arena. They really make sure to place you on the right horse for your tempermant and ability. Evenings were a pleasure by the campfire, or the hilarious and sometimes lovely karaoke night. Our fishing evening was equally enjoyable. In addition to feeling so much more confident on horses, river-rafting and handling a firearm, we feel like we've made great new friends. We miss you already! Powell pretty much worships Peter and all his ability as well as his gentle, firm manner with the kids. Ava still has a permanent smile on her face. We hope to return again and that next time Heide will be in fine form so we can all ride together. Take care Cole Family, and many blessings for the new grandchild soon to arrive! Thank you for sharing your family with us!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great. Warm, cozy, clean, good firm mattresses and surrounded by lovely landscapin...

Hi Elizabeth, I think that Ava carries her permanent smile from her Mother's gene pool - but hopefully the dude ranch vacation will continue to strengthen the smiles. We all enjoyed your effervescent happy demeanors as well. What a great contribution your whole family made to the week.
C.J. is now full term and could deliver any day. She told me today that she is "DONE with the pregnancy thing!" so... we shall have a new river guide, or wrangler, or rangemaster to put on the payroll in a week or two. Tell Ava, that "Danger Doug" taught Peter everything he knows and that she could worship one generation back as well! HAH! It's actually a join parenting failure on the part of Peter, and he brought his good features from his pre-mortal realm to raise, teach and rear his parents correctly.

Well. Don't wait to long for a return visit. The Coles send their best to all of you, and thank you so much for the kind remarks and wonderful review. The "Danger Doug"

This experience turned out to be one of the best vacations I have had. I wish we had more time to get to know Heidi, and hope she is feeling better. The family enviornment was so nice. The group activities were excellent. I appreciated you always asking if we needed anything. The cabins had everything you needed and were so comfy. The best was the trail rides by the water and through the beautiful mountains. The great stories from Doug..lol . We will never forget Ken...all the special attention with each weapon....from bows, to all the different fire arms..and the laughter....it was great. Now to the cooks..wow..the food was off the hook...and Peter the music by the fire..is there anything this family can't do...What a loving, hard working family...and Danielle your the best!!! Thanks for all the fun and we will definetly be back soon!! " The sisters" ..Marian and Linda

Hi Ladies! Thank you for the great comments. So, what do you mean by "great stories?" It's all the truth as presented by the President of the Somes Bar Liars Club! Well...spinning a yarn is part of being in the woods I guess - and all in good fun. As for things this family can't do: 1. end global warming, 2. end conflicts in the Middle East 3. secure the European economy 4. and stop the dogs from sleeping in the flower beds....plus solving a few other random annoyances we struggle with in our mortal probations... So, Heidi is doing fine, and is cracking the whip on all the galley slaves, and shuttle bunnies. Our new groups arrived today, and we push on with another week of endless adventures. I hope your drive home was relaxing, and we look forward to another return the "super sisters" for horseback creek crossings, scenic river vistas, and smokin pistolas! Best to you, the MMR staff.
