“Second Best Danish pastry in Solvang”

Second best in Solvang to Danish Mill but still very good pastry. Simple selection and worth a stop. You may find something here and be very happy you did.

“Excellent Bakery Products...YUM!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2008

Mortensen's is just one of the still family owned bakeries in Solvang, using high quality and organic ingredients in its pastries. Olsen's is the mosr popular and well known, but I am a bakery snob and I prefer Mortensen's. They have the best vanilla and chocolate macaroons and these to die for pistacio cups and bars.
Really really good stuff. And yes, it is pricey. You really have to weigh the pluses of quality over quantity here. You dont need to buy a lot because of the quality and richness of the product. Once you understand the work and quality of the item and taste it, you'll understand why many cookies are about $2 each. They do have sampler and package deals. Mortensen's has all the traditional butter cookies, specialty cookies and pastries.
Most of the surrounding hotels give you a danish pastry coupon for breakfast. Service for breakfast is as continental as your meal. Just enough, but dont expect a lot.
I have ordered from the shop and received it fresh, prompt, and undamaged. Please call the shop and ask for the price list. Shipping is a flat fee of $10.
If you're in town, and have time, you should get something from each shop and make your own opinion. But I was 7 when I first went to Mortensen's and am quite a bit older now and I know what I like!
