“Very nice rooms”
Reviewed September 12, 2007

My wife and I stayed 3 wonderful nights in Solvang. The Hadsten House is almost finished with a major remodel. The rooms are new and very clean. They have a gas fireplace, LCD TV's and very nice bathrooms. The bed was a little firm for me, however my wife loved it. The whole Santa Ynez Valley area is fabulous. The restaurants, wineries and the views are breathtaking. I have stayed in Solvang numerous times before, but this was my wifes first visit and it won't be our last. She fell in love with the area.

My family and I loved this room. Very Very Nice...... very clean and Warm Feeling. We travel a lot so the first thing we look for is a clean room. They are in the last part of a complete re vamp of this hotel (not sure what it used to be) and they have spared no expense. From the bed to the color choices to the TV and Fireplace the rooms are outstanding. The staff was very nice and felt bad about all the construction (which never affected us so we didn't care). In a town with a lot of SO-SO hotels we are really glad there is one that is far above. Cant wait to see the finished product, hope they keep the cleanliness UP and the rates DOWN. We will return to this hotel.......

Honestly I was dreading staying the weekend in Solvang, figured we get stuck in a dingy, smelly overpriced hotel. To our great suprise we had a fabulous stay in the newly renovated rooms of the Hadsten House. Rooms are stylish, comfortable and quite they offer flat-screen TV, comfy bed, high quality linens, bath products from L'Occitane and WiFi in rooms! Lots of attention to detail. Staff & manager were very friendly & professional and offered great suggestions for our wine tasting trip. Hotel is walking distance to shops, restaurants and the Festival Theater. Rates are a little on the high side, we paid $215.10 per night without any discounts and the property is still very much under construction. I would definetly stay her again and look forward to seeing the final renovations.

  • Liked — overall comfort and attetion to details in the rooms
  • Disliked — the rest of the property was under construction

My girlfriend and I stayed here on July 4th thru July 7th. They are still remodeling some areas of the Hotel but the rooms were all new inside and very clean. We arrived early on our check in day and the staff was very accommodating and allowed us to check in without any further charges. The town was very friendly and we will be back. Highly recommend!!

Stayed here on the Friday night of July 4th week and had a nice stay at this not quite completely renovated hotel. Considering that most of the properties in the village are old, motel style properties with just basic amenities, we wanted to try something that seemed fresher. Although the exterior is still being worked on, the room itself fit the bill nicely.

Location: On the edge of the village area but still within easy walking distance of everything you need to see in Solvang itself. One bonus is a small market next door which is open till 11pm if you need provisions. They have a self-parking lot.

Amenities: Since the pool and spa are not finished yet, probably not the best choice if you want that. There is no restaurant but they do offer breakfast vouchers to a nice bakery/coffee shop 1/2 block away.

Room: While the place may still look like a motel on the outside, the rooms are anything but. Nice styling, new paint and furnishings and a sweet LCD TV with DVD. Considering there is NO nightlife in Solvang (besides the nearby casino), if you are going to stay in the room after dark, the TV is great. The bed has new mattresses and the toiletries are top notch. There is a refrigerator for storing leftovers/snacks too. Showers are top quality as well.

Staff: Check in people were nice and the manager was helpful in pointing out wineries. There does not appear to be a bellman at this time although this may change when finished.

Price: $215 for a holiday weekend night, which includes breakfast. Comparable to the Holiday Inn Express and other establishments. They did not require 2 night minimum.

Summary: They probably have a month or two to go to get fully operational as far as pool/spa, etc, but if you are looking to stay in the Village in a modern fresh room this will work out fine.

  • Disliked — Not fully operational yet

They are renovating the whole place inside and out and are sparing no expense. The details of the new rooms are exceptional. Very relaxing cool tones with fashonable decor, AMAZINGLY comfy beds (in which they turn down the sheets nightly), great showers, L'occitane bath supples, Plasma flat screen and 'faux' fire place in the rooms- all over great attention to detail. This is not your run of the mill Inn. I travel alot for work and am very particular about ammenites-the Hadsten House (newly renovated!!) had exceeded my expectations. Throw out all of the old reviews seen on tripadvisor, this place is fantastic, a great and endulging place to stay to enjoy the wine country.

Wife and I have stayed at 4 of the highest rated luxury rooms in the Solvang area. The Vagabond horror is long gone.
The Hadsten House is the new name and is upgrading towards the league of the Fess Parker and Ballard Inns.
It is not quite there yet but could be soon.Though not in as quaint a location as those (close to wineries or fine dining -Fess and Ballard have xlnt dining) It is a solid AAA 3.5 star and Solvang walking close.
The Rooms were similar to the Chumash Casino 4star rooms, but The Hadsten House rooms are outfitted better than Casino rooms .Spotlessly clean, Hadsten has comfy couches ,upscale window treatments( shutters) that actually work. The Beds/bedding-mattresses are custom made with proper firmness and had down comforters
.The Spa and Pool were not finished.
The whirlpool-Spa is needed ASAP
Not cheap but we recommend for those travelers who will pay for a great nights sleep, and have their car close.
( Chumash is Valet or self park garage-NOT convenient)
We will return when the Spa /Whirlpool tubs operative.
