After visiting Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley for years, we had never even heard of this hotel. Had stayed across the street at the Holiday Inn but upon staying at Hadsten, we'll never stay anywhere else.

We booked the more high end room as it was not much more expensive. It turned out to be two rooms and was better than we expected on alot of levels.

Upon an initial view, the place has a very chic french vibe. Dark hardwood floors, 2 fireplaces, 2 lcd tvs, antique looking books, comfortable bed... just very upscale in general. Turned out the fireplaces are fake, the tvs are small and the books are just decoration but it still gives a very nice impression and a great general vibe.

The restaurant/wine bar is equally as impressive and you receive a complimentary glass of wine when you check in.

This motel seems a bit out of place considering it's in the very Danish inspired city of Solvang.

If you are looking for a more cosmopolitan stay in this area, you can't go wrong with this place.

We enjoyed the Hadsten House for only one night, Feb 14. Our package included dinner and a continental breakfast. Considering the executive type quality of the accomidations and the gourmet food it was a tremendous value. However what we didn't count on was having two of my wife's diamond rings stolen. One she received for our 20th wedding anniversary in 1990. When you factor in the emotional stress, the cost of the rings and the feeling of being violated, we will be paying for that one night stay for years.

5.0 for wonderfully renovated rooms - relatively large with bathroom comfortably separated from room area, new furniture, paint colors coordinated throughout with painted ceilings and crown molding, comfy beds with fluffy pillows. It was a great place to stay for a long weekend away from home. Nice room touches like a laundry basket and a heater lamp in the bathroom. Easily within the top two rooms we've ever stayed in at a hotel, inn, or B&B, with the caveat that we prioritize value for money vs. going for ultimate luxury.

Location is great - just before the part of Mission Drive that gets backed up with the pedestrians walking around old-town Solvang. Just off centrally located. Walking distance of everything Solvang.

4.5 for -- We found the customer service very good upon check-in, check-out and making a reservation for the restaurant (which is small, so make sure they aren't booked). The food was very good, excellent value for much less than our home area of the San Francisco Bay Area but not "the best we've ever had". That being said, we'd happily dine here every night if we weren't trying to sample other restaurants.

3.5 for -- Customer service over the phone -- the digital cable went out late on the last night of our stay. We called in the problem and instead of saying "yes, we'll definitely look into it" they said "you're the only one who has complained of this problem." That may be the case, but I think the next guest in the room would probably want that fixed.

My girlfreind and I recently stayed at this hotel. We had heard and read great things. The rooms were recently remodeled and very nice. Unfortunately, that is the only nice thing about this hotel. The worst part of our experience was the restaurant. We made a 7:30 p.m. reservation. When we arrived they did not have a table for us, so we sat down at the bar. We were finally acknowledged after waiting 15 minutes. The bar tender did not ask us if we would like a drink, he just told us our table should be ready in a while. We were finally sat at our table around 8:15 p.m. We were not given water or menus. Finally after asking a hostess we recieved menus and water after sitting for another 15 minutes. After not seeing a waiter or waitress for an additional 15 to 20 minutes we decided to leave. It is unfortunate given this hotels beutifull renovation that they have such absolutely terrible service. We will not return.

This hotel is either new or newly renovated and it was excellent. The rooms were very clean with nice toiletries in the bathroom. The decor was quaint and fit in perfectly with the gas fireplace and ambiance.

We were visiting for just one night to tour through wine country which was also great. Unfortunaltely we didn't partake in the complimentary appetizer and glass of wine. Maybe next time.

I think that the only downside was that the Spa wasn't open yet but there are others in town.
