“If you have young kids, you HAVE to stop by here.”
Reviewed February 22, 2012

I'm so glad I did my homework and found Sunny Fields playground. My 3-year-old was ecstatic, which makes for happy parents.

Every kid has been to the typical metal and plastic playground. They climb the ladders, go down the slides, and spin the wheels that don't turn anywhere. They're a dime a dozen and you'll find them in any major town. But not like this. The wooden structure and hand-painted towers scream NEW and EXCITING to your little one. They've never seen anything like it before, and they just HAVE to explore every nook and cranny of newness they can find. And don't let the wood fool you. The place is new and clean and the bathroom facilities are much better than you'd expect from a public park. In fact, instead of a men's room and a ladies' room, I think there were just like 4 or so "family bathrooms" side-by-side-by-side.

The misters were interesting, if cold in February. I liked the tightrope walk, which is something you don't see anywhere else. And I really liked the big chair swing, so baby could sit in Daddy's lap and go for a ride.

So much of Solvang is for the parents, from food to wine to shopping. If you're going to drag your kids along, don't they deserve a special visit to somewhere just for them?

“Unique new park, great for kids”
Reviewed December 22, 2011

Great new park with play structure architecture that reflects the roots of the Santa Ynez Valley. Clean, modern facilities, and the park will be even nicer when the many young trees mature.

“Great playground for kids”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

We passed by Sunny Fields Park, which is not far off Mission Drive, by chance and saw that it had a great playground, so stopped by with our 18 month old daughter and ended up returning two more times over the weekend. The playground is within a small park, which also has a baseball diamond, picnic tables and clean bathrooms. The playground itself is designed around a Viking theme and is one of the nicer playgrounds we have ever visited. If you are looking for something to do with the kids for an hour or so - and choices are surprisingly limited in the Solvang area - Sunny Fields Park offers a great and apparently little-publicized option.
