“Excellent Food and Decor and Cocktails”
Reviewed November 27, 2012 via mobile

this is a very California restaurant. Fresh fatm to table creative ingredients, cool trendy decor and fun cocktails. I had the "shake and bake" chicken entree which was highly recommended by locals and I was told was the only entree that has been on the menu since the restaurant opened. (Ive's Shake and Bake Petaluma Chicken
Whipped crème fraîche potatoes, Fuji apples, organic raisins) When they took it off for a few weeks they got too many complaints. otherwise the menu changes often. The cocktails were fun too. The service was great. Only complaint is that the prices were a bit high. But I guess you pay for the ambiance.

“Another disappointment at Root 246”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Some time ago, shortly after this restaurant opened, we had dinner there and were a little disappointed. It did not come up to the expectations we had with its celebrity owner/chef Bradley Ogden. As a result, we did not go back.

However, the Chumash Casino gave us a coupon for 2 complimentary Sunday brunches, and since we were staying at the adjacent Hotel Corque, we decided to try it. Again, it seemed very average, nothing one would expect from a highly touted restaurant of a celebrity chef. It had most of the usual standard Sunday brunch items but all prepared in a very ordinary way. Plain waffles, plain French toast, scrambled eggs, standard omelets on request, a few salads (quite ordinary and standard preparations), bagels and lox, sliced turkey and roast beef, and a potato soup. Not even eggs benedict. Coffee was served at the table, and we had to ask for butter, as it was not available at the buffet, and they brought two little pads. Even the desserts were rather ordinary, quite a surprise in a town known for its Danish pastry.

The regular cost of the buffet is $26.95 per person without alcohol. If we get a comp again and are staying at the Corque, we will probably go back.

“The Best Brunch!”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

The brunch tables were laden with the best looking and tasting dishes - everything from fluffy spinach/egg scramble , maple bacon, many side dishes, a bagel, lox & creamcheese station, perfectly succulent roast beef , Fried chicken and waffles and other many meats, Cheeses, loads of fruits and desserts with , bein sur, Danish pastries in abundance. The only off note might be the seating. The extremely high backed chairs and small tables made me feel rather like we were eating with the Elves. Everything was yummy/delicious, but it wasn't quite comfortable.

“Modern Setting in Solvang”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Beautiful modern restaurant in the heart of this Danish setting. The menu changes nightly and there are many incredible choices. All the food is farm fresh and the combinations are extremely inventive. This restaurant is not for the typical Solvang visitor. It's for the foodies who come to Santa Ynez for wine tasting. Excellent service was provided by Janet. Ask for her when you make your reservations and be sure to try the bacon wrapped dates!

“Great Brunch”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

When we visit Solvang we always reserve a table at Root 246 for champagne brunch. They provide a wide variety of quality food. We are both vegetarian and left feeling plenty full.
