“A great getaway- and you really are away from it all!”
Reviewed May 29, 2007

We stayed at the Inn over Memorial Day weekend and would recommend it to anyone going down to Pinnacles National Monument. Like many Inns there is a casual, comfortable nature about the place that we loved. Much of this can be attributed to your hosts, Jan and John, who are there for you if you need anything but also are happy to let you have a quiet weekend on your own.

Breakfast each morning was great. Wine and snacks each evening was a welcome end to our day marked by good conversation, food and wine.

Just remember they are not kidding when they say there is nothing nearby (except Chalone winery). Salinas is the nearest big town and it is 45 minutes away. Definitely arrive before dark since the last part of your drive is on narrow and windy route 146 and then a mile or two of dirt roads. (oh, we have a Honda Civic so you don't need a 4x4 to get there- it's not that far out there!)

The gas grills for each room are also handy since there are no restaurants nearby. We loved it, however, and had a great dinner on our back patio (which each room has as well). We packed a cooler of drinks, dinner food, and snacks and had a great time.

The rooms are spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed the whirlpool tub after a day of hiking (big enough for 2 in our room!). They also provided plenty of bottled water and some light snacks (pretzels, cookies, etc) in case you didn't pack to that level.

After 2 nights we felt like we had been on a much longer vacation- we were happy, well fed, and well rested. WE would definitely recommend the Inn if you are heading to the area.

  • Liked — Such a great getaway
  • Disliked — If you want to get away from it all but be nearby everything this is not the place for you.

I recently stayed at the Inn at the Pinnacles. It was wonderful. They take care of every detail - luxury linens, beautiful appointments, and complete privacy. Each room has its own separate entrance and patio. It feels more like a boutique hotel than a bed and breakfast. The wet bar is stocked with complimentary bottled water and snacks. Well, I was hungry when we checked-in, and I really appreciated this thoughtful gesture. Each room has a mini-fridge and a gas grill (on the patio) as well as the dishes, silverware and glass ware. This allows one to cook dinner and enjoy a glass a wine without having to drive.

A gas fireplace/stove heats your room quite quickly. (An A/C unit provides cool air for the summer months.) The over-sized tub had air jets. It is very hygenic because the jets automatically purge the bathwater. The flooring is ceramic tile and they provide slippers to comfort your barefeet. Overall, the room was exceptionally clean.

There is refreshing balance of professionalism and sincere warmth at this inn. The hostess and host respect your privacy but at the same time, they are gifted conversationalists. If you join them for wine and cheese in the evening, you will enjoy their company. I felt they did an excellent job of making their guests feel welcome.

Here is a list of specific details that made my stay so wonderful:
-Abundant lavender growing right on the patio
-Spa robes and slippers
-Handcrafted wildflower soaps
-Extra towels and pillows
-Delicious vittles and a great breakfast
-Grade "AAA" stemware
-Amazing views

I should mention that there are no televisions in the room. This is either a blessing or an inconvenience depending on what you want out of your stay. I do not have any photos of the interior of the room or of the main house, but rest assure it is all Homes-and-Gardens gorgeous. There are some pix of the rooms at their website.
