“Delicious Mexican food”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

Fidel's was recommended by several people and it did not disappoint. Traditional Mexican restaurant, quite large and busy, but we were seated right away on a Thursday night. .
Everyone in our party of five enjoyed their dinners, and I am all ready to return soon.

“Try the fideo soup!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

My friend introduced me to Fidel's when I first moved to Southern California 14 years ago and it's still the gold standard for Mexican food for me. I always get the fantastic fideo soup, and their carne asada is quite tasty. It's a fun place to bring visiting guests from other parts of the country to experience.

“A tasty treat”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Fidel's has seating on several floors including a covered below street level courtyard. Go early if you want courtyard seating. nicely decorated & they had a small Mariachi band to serenade us. The portions were large which suited me just fine. Not just large but they didn't spare the meat. My favorite was the rellano which was delicious with a thick tasty batter. Prices were reasonable & week days there is an early bird special. Plan to go & stay a while at beautiful Salono Beach.

“So-so food, poor service, high prices”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

We visited Fidel's based on these reviews and on another review site. We expected much better and boy were we disappointed. The food was mediocre. Salsa was watery, food was not too flavorful. The service was very slow and they weren't that busy. We had to ask for drink refills and they brought us flat pop. They don't have a kids menu so we had to pick from the regular menu from items the kids didn't care for. Our daughter has a taco which came with no sides and cost $5. Pop and milk were $3 per glass and all of the food was similarly overpriced for what you got. They tried to sit us in a room that was overloaded with loud kids. We were much more impressed by Tomy Jacals next door. Go there instead.

“Even Better Than We Remember”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We used to eat here in the 70s when we lived in San Diego. It’s even better than we remember. Bright, rustic place with wonderful service. My wife had the lunch special – mixed beef tostada and a well margarita. The tostada was great, with very flavorful shredded beef. And her margarita was one of the best we’ve encountered in a long time. My crab enchilada was full of REAL crab, and sauced with a very tasty tomatillo sauce. Gracias, Gina, for the excellent cheerful service. We won’t wait another forty years to go back.
