“a special little lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

We stayed at this lodge, a great weekend. the interior is nostalgic of an old lodge, pine timbers everywhere. The property as very clean, room was comfortable (we stayed in one with full bath).
great bar and wonderful dining among the pine timbers and large fire places. The food was very good. Staff was great, helpful and kind. walk outside to the river. Only a short drive to tubing and ski. lots of comfort, sprit, and relaxation. expect to relax with a wine and a game of backgammon. Will be back at the next opportunity.

My husband and I just spent a most awesome overnight stay at the Rainbow Lodge in Soda Springs California. This place is quaint and quiet. The entire staff is there to see that your stay is most memorable. Each and every staff member is upbeat, with a smile on their faces and they really enjoy their jobs of attending to all the patrons. The rooms are absolutely enchanting; decorated in the period decor plus modern plumbing. They are spotless and very comfortable, great nights' sleep. There is a restaurant but I would not call it that; it is a beautiful dining room overlooking the grounds (which by the way was covered in snow; gorgeous) with a huge stone fireplace that is well maintained and light. The service is impeccable; whatever you desire it's yours for the asking. The food is cook how you like it and there's a good variety from smoked salmon to a cheese burger if you so desire. The dinner rolls and breakfast muffins are baked right there and they are to die for. In the mornings they have fresh coffee at the front desk and there is no such thing as styrafoam cups here; real coffee mugs. When we checked in I was asked if I had picked our room for a specific reason (I had not); the manager said it was one of the smaller rooms and if we would like they would move us to a larger one; NO EXTRA COST. Perfect. It was wonderful. We had a complimentary breakfast in the morning. Now how many places do that. This was a full breakfast; not a cup of coffee in a plastic cup and a pre-packaged pastry like all the other places people visit. What a wonderful touch. If your nerves are jangled and you're stressed out this is the place for you to unwind and just simply relax. On a scale from 1-10 this gets a 10+. I would not hesitate to recommend the Rainbow Inn to anyone. Go and see for yourself and enjoy it like we did; you won't regret it. Lynn from Fair Oaks, Ca.

Room Tip: Any room would be an excellent choice

This is not and does not pretend to be a four star hotel - what this is is a wonderful geust house with a phenomenally friendly staff. Don't expect a TV, don't expect wi-fi. But you will find that the hotel staff are amongst the friendliest you will encounter. We were made to feel very much at home.

The lodge is in a wonderful setting. there is a full bar and the dining facilities are good. The complementary breakfast is excellent.

Charming! We had a very good experience. Staff welcomed and treated us like family. The lodge is old world beautiful - master craftsman. For dinner I can recommend their chicken teriyaki with wild rice and fresh cooked carrots. Yum. We enjoyed the free breakfast at this B&B which was substantial, including fresh baked muffins. My husband said to mention the coffee is excellent.

A beautiful place inside and out, the Rainbow Lodge is excellent! The staff was wonderful to my family and little girl Willow. Everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable. We stayed 2 nights and didn't want to leave.

The lodge itself is full of history, and if you are looking for a place to recharge and escape the city, this is the place for you! Our room had two beds and a bathroom. Plus a lively view of the river.

Remember this is not a chain hotel, they have much much more to offer, just in a different way. The food is delicious and fresh, and Angie made our stay the best!

My husband and I rented the Bridal Suite for our 10 year anniversary last Friday. We paid for 2 nights and left after the first night. We and a lot of our friends have been going there for years. Never again. It would have been nice to have a small bottle of champagne in our room, but they are too tight to spend the money. The food was terrible and has doubled in price. I asked for the eggs Benedict for breakfast and was told the hollindaise sauce wasn't ready yet. We paid $33.00 for a steak that was 1/2 inch thick and MAYBE 8 ounces. There are no more coffee pots allowed in the rooms due to a fire hazard but why leave an old decrepit microwave and mini fridge still in the room? The carpets in the bar and restaurant are filthy and ripped. The drink prices are outrageous and you can't take your drinks out by the river anymore due to new laws, which I understand but ruins the ambiance. The "manager/bartender" was disciplining the staff as I sat at the bar, even to say in front of me that a credit card was lost. Nobody knows what the next person is doing. When we left I handed the receptionist the keys and told her it was a very unpleasant experience and she just looked at me and said "thank you" never bothering to ask why . The Rainbow Lodge used to be the best place and now it's ruined. Qudos to the new management!

Room Tip: Just don't go at all. You will only be disappointed.

We often stop by here for lunch on our way to Reno from the bay area.
The food and service has always been good and worth the visit.
Not this time. I had not checked the reviews on Tripadvisor before this visit.
It seems this business has changed hands and not for the better.
We arrived a 1PM for lunch. There has been some freeway construction
on HWY 80 but it wasn’t hard to get to the lodge.
It was not very busy when we arrived and there appeared to be just one server.
It took about ten minutes to get seated. Then it took 30 more to get our order taken.
We saw the waitress go by and wait on the tables near us, but it was like we were invisible. My husband finally called out to her but she seemed deaf. The next time she appeared, he called out again, this time loud enough all of the other patrons looked at us.
Still the waitress turned her back and walked away. The dinners next to us
commented, they had also received slow service and had been waiting for their check for over 20 minutes. They finally got up to pay on the way out.
Eventually she showed up and took our order. She wasn’t rude; she just stated they had been very busy. It would have made such a difference if she had at least acknowledged us
the first time she saw us and mentioned they were busy instead of ignoring us.
When our food arrived we asked for our check to be sure we didn’t end up waiting like our dinning neighbors. But we still ended up waiting quite a while after.
The food was as good as we’d experienced in the past but my husbands’ coffee cup had lipstick on the rim. This kind of influenced the remaining dinning experience.
Needless to say, the ambiance is still nice and rustic. The food is still good, but the dishes and hygiene may be questionable. We weren’t in any hurry on our road trip, but the extra slow and poor service still made our ordeal unsatisfactory.
It is very sad to see such an old local business decline.
We will not be back unless we see better reviews in the future.

Room Tip: We were only here to dine.
