We booked this motel based on other recommendations in Trip Advisor...what a mistake. The room was barely large enough to turn around in; the thermostat was completely broken and the only offer from the manager was to give us blankets; the fridge and microwave was dirty and the housekeeper left a cleaning bottle in the room. The manager stated there was not another room to move into, yet the vacancy sign was displayed. We decided to not to stay and the manager would not disclose the owners name or return our money for fear he would be fired. We heard many excuses, but no solutions. I am a seasoned traveler and this was the most poorly run motel and the poorest customer service I have experienced...beware. This also is certainly not a bed and breakfast...not even a coffeemaker in the room. When I questioned the manager, he offered to bring in a coffeemaker, but had no coffee.

Loved it! The new owners were friendly and helpful - we followed their advice for dinner and had an awesome meal at a restaurant up the road. TWO ROOMS!!!! (Mum snores). Best sleep I'd had for days. Short walk to the ocean in a beautiful area - it's worth walking around the streets just to look at the houses. Can't recommend highly enough.

This is little place is awesome! It is a gem in Pismo Beach. I was in town for my son's graduation from Cal Poly. This place is not in San Luis Obispo, which means you are away from all the crowds, but is near enough (10 min drive) that you can make it to the ceremony without any problems. We liked being close to the beach too. I would highly recommend this place.

This hotel was a great find. It is located walking distance to the ocean, right next door to a coffee shop and a taxi ride to the downtown. The rooms are nothing too fancy but they are clean and the staff is great. I will stay here every time I go to Pismo!

I started coming to the Palomar years ago, and I still love the place. When I stay in a hotel, I want a clean, simple room at a good price, and then I spend most of my time outside enjoying the place I've come to see. Shell Beach is a quiet town just up the road from Pismo Beach and down the road from Avila Bay. You can walk down to the cliff overlooking the ocean, or find a trail down to the beach, or drive a short distance to enjoy the towns, vineyards, and restaurants nearby. Next door is The Steaming Bean, a wonderful coffee shop full of locals every morning. Walk in and you'll know you've come to the right place. Another 50 meters or so takes you to Central Coast Kayaks, where you can have a great adventure (kayaking in the ocean nearby is a nature lovers delight with seals, sea caves, and more).

The Palomar is also good for families. The have regular rooms (be aware a queen size bed will fill most of some rooms) and simple suites. We got a room with a queen size bed and a futon bed, and they kindly threw in a roll away bed for free. The room even came with two TVs, one in the room with the queen size bed (for parents!).

The are adding a business center with computers, and they already have free wi-fi (and the coffee shop next door also has wi-fi).

One downside is the hotel is close enough to the freeway to hear a faint noise of passing cars. That doesn't bother me, but be aware if you're really sensitive about such things.

I found this gem by chance on the way to the coast. I had no reservations and as luck would have it, they had a room. I have recommended this place to all my friends/family. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are neat & clean. For it being a smaller hotel, they offer wireless internet and have lots of channels to choose from. I can not say enough good things about The Palomar Inn.
