Shasta Lake is exceptional.....whether it is water skiing or jet skiing or just wakeboarding and finding the waterfall....its a pleasure to have it so close by.

Went to Lake Shasta for the first time - it was a good family environment. A little something for anyone outdoorsy: jet skiing, boating, families, RV's, camping. The camp we statyed at Camp Antlers had some OK amenities, but none of the lake shores around the area were particularly good for swimming or lounging by the lake.

We took our dog and they were pretty accommodating of dogs.

The lake has so much potential but the demand for water has dropped its levels. You look at the lake and it just makes you depressed. Very steep shoreline so its very difficult to enjoy the lake since you have to crawl down to it. Having a houseboat on the lake would be cool or a regular boat for a day. Early summer I'm sure the lake is more enjoyable.

I LOVE our Lake. Always have and always will. It has many wonderful fingers to explore and lots of really good fishing. Beautiful logging roads to travel around the lake for those who enjoy some adventure. Camping along the shore is acceptable and desirable. The only problem is that the Powers that be are tending to feel the need to release more water down river than they need, which leaves the lake resembling a large mud hole instead of the beautiful, peaceful, serene lake that it generally is by Summers' end. Just in time for Fire Season to start.

We've always loved visiting Lake Shasta. We visited July 28th - July 31st, 2012. The lake was down somewhere around 42 feet at that point. It seemed like they were letting out around 2-3 feet of water each day. Most of the shoreline along the lake is rocky and somewhat steep. This lake is much more enjoyable if you are on a houseboat or have access to a boat and can spend your time out on the water and not be stuck along the rocky shoreline (unless of course you are there for hiking and other non-water activities). Finding an area to "day camp/picnic" right along the water can be difficult to find. Expect the shoreline to be rocky and deep rust colored soil that can stain your clothing if you don't rinse in a timely fashion. Once you are off the shoreline (maybe 25 yards) the water is realtivly clear. Once you are out farther, say 50-100 yards the water is crystal blue and perfect! The temperature of the lake is refreshing. I would say it was somewhere around 75 degrees. We found an area off of Salt Creek Road and Hwy 5 that allowed us to get close to the water and set up a day tent and chairs to play for the day. We love Lake Shasta and wish we lived closer so we could enjoy boating on the lake more often! We were sadened to hear about the fire that affected the area of Salt Creek just after we left the area. Hopefully it didn't completely devastate the area.
