My husband and I attended a wedding in Monterey and made reservations at the Holiday Inn Express through aa.com. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even allowing us to check in to our room 3 hours early. However, their helpfulness did not make up for the rest of the trip. We got a room by the pool on the back side of the hotel where there was also a lot of construction, so we were constantly disturbed by sounds from the pool area and the construction site. Also, one night we came back to the hotel to discover that we were locked out of our room because the safety latch had somehow been pushed back over the door. We had to call a maintenance man who ended up just taking a hammer to it and breaking it off so we could get back into our room. Not a great experience. All in all, I think the hotel was really, really average, but considering we paid less per night for a 4 star hotel in downtown San Francisco that same weekend, I would never stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Monterey Bay again. It's not worth the money.
