While visiting family in Seal Beach, we decided to try out the new Hampton Inn & Suites since it is located just a mile from family. This hotel is directly adjacent to the Los Alamitos Reserve Station and the Boeing Company, so best to have a car since it is not an "in town" type of place.
The hotel is brand new and very clean. It is very geared to the business traveler, though we found it comfortable for our vacation stay as well. We had a room with a small kitchen area with a microwave and small frig, which we like so we can feel more at home on a longer stay. The kitchen area has it's own counter, sink and cupboards, which was nice and uncrowded.
The hotel also has a continental-type breakfast every morning from 6-10 am that includes a hot egg or french toast dish each day, cereals, yogurt, bread and bagels for toasting, muffins, danish, juices, fresh fruit, etc. The food wasn't fabulous of course, but at least it was a little something to eat in the morning before going out for the day. I could see how this would be a great thing for people staying on business. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available 24hrs in the lobby/breakfast area.
They also have a small pool and hot tub outside the front of the hotel, but since it's in the parking lot between two busy roads, not really an area to lounge and hang out---but still nice to have there if you want to take advantage of it.
There is free high-speed internet in your room and a lobby office room with fax and copier, and a great little gym with modern equipment, towels and TV's on each piece of equipment. There is also a little "mini-store" behind the desk where you can buy chips, ice cream and frozen meals and such to make in your microwave or use the one in the lobby breakfast area. The lobby area is big and full of tables and chairs, and we saw lots of people taking advantage of it for business, as well as by otheres to eat their own bring-in food with their family. They have guest laundry facilities as well, and will even give you soap to use.
Overall, this is a great place to stay if you will be out and about most of your time while visiting, and just want a clean and comfortable place to stay. It does not have a vacation or "resort" feel by any means and no activities, bar or restaurant in the hotel itself, so if you are looking for that you will probably not be happy there. We were on vacation but spent little time in our room since we were out visiting family and wandering about, so we were quite satisfied overall. We also like having the kitchenette in our room to have our own breakfast and snack items.
The hotel is very geared to the business traveler--we met a man there working as a contractor who had been there for three months. However, I would not recommend this as a hotel for people with small or school-age children unless you intend to take them out all day---nothing in the hotel for them to do since it is a more adult/business-type atmosphere and they will be bored.
Just a mention---there is a Subway, a Starbucks, a Del Taco and a Japanese restaurant in the same parking lot with the hotel, so some food and coffee is available without driving, even though there is no restaurant in the hotel. There's a nail salon as well.
