Another favorite place to dine in So-Cal. When ever you are in Seal Beach, put Walt's Wharf on the list of places to eat.

The staff is friendly, menu is tops. Try the oak fired items for a change of pace. Prices are in line, plus a pleasant wine list.

If you like seafood, treat yourself to Walt's Wharf -- you will not be disappointed. They serve quality seafood, the service is great and the ambience is wonderful.

This is my favorite restaurant in Southern California, period. As a diver who has caught my own fish and lobster for decades, I know what fresh should taste like, and this is it. The seafood at Walt's is absolutely outstanding, the sauces turn great food into exceptional food, the service is superior (there are many high end restaurants that should send their managers here to see how it should be done), and the fun, funky older main street building sets a great tone for a relaxed meal. My favorite place is the lower dining room by the harbor mural, by the windows lining Main Street so you can people-watch while you munch. The artichoke, sourdough bread, clam chowder, anything fish...all exceptional. No, I don't work here and don't know anyone who does, I just really like it. We can only afford to go a few times a year but that makes it extra special.

I just love this place! I love the oak-fired fish, and the artichokes with aioli dip are to die for. And I love the huge assortment of beer and wines. They even have their own winery - Babcock, which makes a terrific budget-priced wine. My favorite main course, after the chokes, is the blackened catfish in Cilantro Cream and Jalapeno Polenta.

I must protest the silly remarks about the bathrooms and the upstairs. Yes, the bathrooms are a bit funky and the upstairs (for overflow) a bit gloomy. But Hey, it's the beach!

This is what you do: Put your name on the list, 'cause it's almost always crowded at lunch and dinner time. Ask for a downstairs table. Pocket the flashing vibrator that tells you when your table is ready and stroll down Main Street toward the pier, window-shopping and people-watching and appreciating local charms, like the absence of parking meters. Usually your table is ready before the estimate they give you, so don't stray too far.

Even more than the food and drink and the happy atmosphere, what I like about Walt's are the consistently bright and cute waitresses. They alone are with the journey.

Ok, I must grudgingly agree -- stay away from the mashed potatoes.
