Having frequented Walt's regularly for over 20 years, I admit it has had a couple of dull patches among a string of many excellent years. A recent dull patch occurred early 2012 after a chef change. But now Walt's has sprung back to a tie with Mahe for top spot in my book. Walt's has the best wine list within a 15 mile radius (and there are always at least 5 interesting draft brews). The proprietor owned Babcock labels are always excellent, but there is a reasonably priced assortment of vintage boutique California wines that will surprise the discerning buyer. For the appetizer, the mussels/clam combo (Oretga style for me) is outstanding (save some sourdough bread for dipping in the broth). The entree salads are excellent, as are the fish main courses (the fish portions are reasonable, and maybe a little thin; but are universally delicious). The service is always attentive, helfpul and friendly. Go to Walt's if you are in the area.
