Best Western Plus Inn Scotts Valley
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Scotts Valley
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Location:
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night. We went to the boardwalk which was just about 8 miles from this Best Western in Scotts Valley. Super easy drive to and from SC beach boardwalk. It's also relatively close to Big Basin and the Mystery Spot. There is a jack in the box next store you can walk to and a couple gas stations within a block. There was also a Mexican cafe we did not try, but also within walking distance. There are no nice restaurants, shopping or nightlife without taking the short drive into SC.

Room:
The room was older, but clean and well kept. For an older room, we were impressed to see that there was no mold or rust and the carpet seemed pretty clean. The bed was comfortable, but not super soft. The water pressure was good too. The room was quiet even though we were above the swimming pool which was also clean.

Service:
The staff at the front desk was super friendly and was prepared for our check in upon our arrival. Check out was also a cinch. Less than two minutes I would say. A complimentary continental breakfast was provided.

Overall, I would recommend this room to anybody that needs a room near SC that doesn't want to pay the same price (or most likely more) for a dirty, run down hotel that offers location very close to the boardwalk. A short drive can give you a little more for your money. Also, I would only recommend this hotel for a short stay like 2 days max. If you are on a vacay and not a weekend trip I would recommend spending some extra money to stay closer to the main attractions and have the amenities of an upgraded room.

Room Tip: We had room 208 on the 2nd floor over the swimming pool. It was pretty spacious and quiet. No patio...

After staying one night in Santa Cruz, we decided to add an extra day only to find a problem with local vacancies. Scott's Valley is a 10 minute drive up the road and worth the drive. The Best Western was able to accommodate our one night stay. The hotel is right off the freeway, easy to find. The room was clean, beds comfortable and room was quiet. My one complaint is there are no hooks to hang bathroom bags and the sink clogged quickly.. They were very busy and ran out of extra blankets. If you feel the need for one, ask early. The breakfast was a typical Best Western breakfast. Very small eating area but they opened the conference room for extra tables. Very long lines to make the waffles. Check in and out was very easy. They were a little pricier than other Best Westerns I've stayed in, but on par with the area.

This hotel is certainly not deserving of an "excellent" review. Possibly ok, maybe good...but Excellent? Come on.

Ok - here's why. It's more of a motel feel - not a hotel feel. Yes, they serve "eggs" and "sausage" during breakfast, but the taste and feel are not of real meat and eggs. Then, they stop serving certain breakfast items at about 9:30am - although they close at 10am and still have a gang of folks coming in to eat. We had to TELL them that they were out of eggs, milk, etc. Or else they won't refill - slight attitude involved. 2nd morning, we just kept quiet since it was now 9:45 am when we trickled in with some others.
Another downfall - they are STINGY with towels. LIED to us, saying they don't have any extra bath towels to spare (room came with two only for two night stay, 4 ppl), and gave us these swim towels instead that were so thin and dingy - I wouldn't dry my dogs with those rough things!
Lastly - have you really watched how a room is cleaned? NOT sanitary. I bring my own lysol wipes to wipe down door handles, toilet, fridge. The fridge handle was crusty and grody, The desk chair had some stains. In the breakfast area, the same towel used to wipe off lids of garbage are wiping down the tables. Parking was tight at times. You CAN hear conversations next door, thin walls.

But - besides these few things - it's an OK establishment. But certainly not EXCELLENT.....who are these ppl giving EXCELLENT ratings??

Wanna hear the plus's? Good location. RIGHT off of freeway. Expensive grocery store down the street, but convenient. AWESOME pizza place and cambodian restaurant in same shopping center. Room was nicely done, not too weathered looking.

We were very pleased with this hotel. The location is just off of highway 17 with many good dining establishments close by and perhaps 5 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz. Our room was generously sized, quiet, clean, well ventilated and the bed comfortable. The staff was friendly and a pleasure to be around. We needed to get up rather early and knowing this, the staff had the complimentary breakfast buffet set up & open 15 minutes before they normally - nice! The pool was a nice temp & clean however a bit on the small size but that's not a big deal. We'll absolutely stay here again on our next trip to the area.

I stayed one night was pleasantly surprised at the decor and newness of linens and bedding. Carpet was new and clean. Free Wifi!! Don't care for Vaseline body care products, but brought my own anyway. Breakfast was fine, I prefer hard-boiled eggs over powdered eggs but the coffee was good, hot and strong so it got us going early and quick. Staff was friendly and helpful. We checked in late and checked out early so we didn't look around much but it was clean and nice and we felt very comfortable.

Our family traveled to Santa Cruz & on to San Francisco. This hotel was close to all of the places we wanted to see without paying high prices for being in the heart of Santa Cruz. The staff was always very friendly and accommodating and our room was clean and fresh looking. The breakfast was above a typical hotel continental - just right to get your day started. The breakfast room is small and easily crowded, but the meeting room is open for additional seating. We will definitely stay here again!

We stayed two nights, very close to Santa Cruz, very helpful Staff, clean rooms, nice breakfast included, free parking, nice and clean outdoor pool and hot tub. The Hotel needs an outside remodeling, and needs a bigger and better place to serve the breakfast.
