This Place has BIG history with the California Logging Industry. They have kept the Hotel alive with much of that history plus, it's right in the very town and area where the mill is. You can see the mill and a walk through the town is where the mill employees and their families lived.
We enjoyed our one night stay and they are pet friendly. They have a very nice garden area and a walk aroung the town shows that they want to keep the essence of their past alive. the rooms are great and claw bathtubs with brass shower hardware is really unique. My wife, Queenie our Chihuahua and I give the Inn a big thumbs-up! enjoy
P.S. They have what looks like a very nice eatery on the first floor of the Inn which you can check out on their website. we ate at Chapela's Mexican Rest. in Eureka before arriving--Great Place, one of our favorites in the area

What an impression the Scotia Inn makes as you arrive. It is beautifully manicured and the lobby is magnificent. Staff was very friendly and check-in process was quick. If you enjoy historic places, you will love the victorian/ antique appointments to the rooms. Room itself was quite large as was the bathroom with a beautiful claw foot bathtub. We had a king size bed that was comfortable and slept well. We loved walking around and exploring the hotel. Huge banquet rooms, hallways with interesting pictures that show the history of the Pacific Lumber Mill across the street which built the structure for its workers as living quarters, and fitness center (we didn't use however). There is also an on-site pub with good food at reasonable prices. Continental breakfast had simple offerings: coffee, tea, fruits, yogurt, oatmeal, and delicious scones. We travel with our two dogs and they are pet friendly with area to walk and doggie bags provided. A great place to stay and we would again if traveling in the area. Added benefit is that it is five miles to the Avenue of the Giants.

Room Tip: Since this is a historic place, note that there is no elevator so you will need to carry luggage up...

We arrived on a Sunday night, for a two night stay, and apparently this is a weekend hotel. They do not have staff at the hotel around the clock. There is a number to call if you need assistance. When you call, it will be at least thirty minutes before you can get on premises assistance. We were told that breakfast would be out by 7 am. On Tuesday, at 7:10, we called and were told by this staff member that it was her day off and that the some staff member would be there by 7:30. So we packed our car first …and as a side note, they say there is no elevator at the hotel and that there is assistance to carry luggage, no one offered to help carry luggage on check in, and no was there at check out, so plan on carrying your own bags. When the staff arrived at 7:30, we asked how long it would be before she could get out breakfast. She replied that she was really coming in early, and that she would have to preheat the oven and cook the sweet rolls, so about 30 minutes. We took a juice and left. This is not a cheap place to stay and we expected it more for the money.

The Scotia Inn is the perfect location for seeing the Redwood Forest and surrounding area! The rooms were such a refreshing departure from normal hotels. I’m very picky about where we stay on vacation as I have traveled for a living for over 35 years. The Inn did not disappoint us. It was inviting, comfortable, very clean, with friendly staff and a wonderful pub with excellent food. It was a perfect place to stay and added to the overall vacation experience.

The hotel/motel pickings in this area of the world are mostly your holiday inn express type experience. We wanted something different and local to the area and found it in the Scotia Inn. The rooms are e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y clean, large and comfortable. Eclectic and victorian in style it is not the cookie-cutter room of a chain hotel. We enjoyed our one night stay and the staff were congenial and helpful, the grounds beautiful, and the town steeped in history. Our only disappointment was the pub being closed the night we were there as I understand the food is delicious. Next time!

We just stayed at Scotia Inn because we felt a need to really get away from the dishes, the laundry, and the same-ol', same ol'. We just live a short distance away, but wanted to check out what everyone was always talking about in the way of historic elegance. They were right. As we drove up, the facade transported us to a time and place where luxury was expected. The bedroom (king-sized bed) was huge! It had a flat-screened tv to entertain us once we were done admiring the antique furniture, fixtures, and architecture. We arrived with plenty of time to explore the Avenue of the Giants (20 minutes south--a local favorite of ours, guaranteed to "ground" me after a hard week of work), with a quick tour of the Founder's Grove (excellent signage indicating the characteristics and history of redwood trees) before heading back to change and go to our favorite restaurant: Ivanhoe's in Ferndale, just 20 minutes north, northwest (best darned Italian food, and being from Chicago, I know what I'm talking about!). Once satiated, we went back to the Scotia Inn to really enjoy its historic splendor. Although there was a wedding party keeping the staff busy, we managed to get a couple beers from the pub and take them out to the porch, where we watched the small town traffic go by unhurried. Back in our room, we further enjoyed the historic ambiance of wallpaper, lace, brass fixtures, and wood moulding, although the upholstery and antique coverlette on the bed needed to be spot-cleaned. While the bed was a little worrisome for it not being as firm as we like, we found that neither of us had a backache in the morning like we normally do. So, the bed was fine! :) Next morning, we were delighted with a Continental breakfast spread of fruit salad (strawberries, melon, pineapple and grapes), pecan/cranberry scones (more like shortbread cookies, so sweet and buttery), and Starbuck's coffee in the little individual plastic cups you insert into a coffee maker to make a individual cup. The coffee was great! Thank you! We started off the morning in excellent form and went back for more fun and hiking in the Avenue of the Giants, before going on a drive for shopping in Eureka/Arcata. I highly recommend this hotel for those who enjoy experiencing historic architecture and amenities.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms right over the front porch since there's a bright light that shines in, getting...
