I was a bit in a hurry as I had no breakfast... luckily I decided not for a quick shot, but for a delicious lunch in Scoma’s. I had the steak with hummer and it was the best I ever had.

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Scoma’s. The crab cakes and mussels were tender, fresh and delicious. And the Alaskan halibut was fresh and flavorful. We were fortunate to sit in the front room overlooking the water with a view of San Francisco. Definitely a wonderful experience!

From reading some of the reviews we were excited to be eating at Scoma’s with its excellent location on the Bay’s waterfront in Sausalito. On arrival we were ushered into a small and very dated dining area at the front (water side) of the restaurant with its six or seven tables. The restaurant fails to take advantage of its water front location and has clearly lacked any investment for many years as the decor and general “feel” left a lot to be desired. Maybe being “out of season” didn’t help? Waiting staff were very kind and attentive but if you are looking for authentic Italian this most certainly isn’t it. The maitre d greeted us in Italian and being Italian myself, I engaged with him; he then ran a mile as clearly he is not Italian or doesn’t speak the language. That in itself was not anything to do with our overall assessment that the food was plain and rather tasteless. We had the spaghetti a lo scoglio which was served with huge clams that had no flavour. The juice (or light) sauce that it came in was watery and lacked garlic and herbs and needed plenty of seasoning. Wine was okay but very expensive. An overall, very disappointing experience saved only by the attentive waitress who did her best to make a poor meal a little better. There is a more authentic Italian restaurant on the other side of the road, which we tried the following night.

While visiting San Francisco we took the ferry over to Sausalito and stumbled into Scomas. Even without reservations we were seated immediately in the main dining room. We still had a great view and the service was on point. Our waiter was quite friendly and not only helped with the menu but also the wine selection. We enjoyed the clam chowder which was delicious as well as the crab cakes. Our daughter who isn't a seafood fan had the chicken sandwich which was huge. Loved our day in Sausalito and Scomas was the perfect addition.
