“So fresh !!!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

On a stop in Sausalito, we were lucky to do a walk-in on a Monday night ( broke my golden rule of never eat sushi on Mondays ) and was so happy we did. I had never seen Heirloom tomatos on a sushi restaurant menu before so we had to try... Amazing !!! Then had some smoked hamchi :) some rolls... Excellent adventure... Heard it is impossible to get in on weekends so plan ahead & make a reservation...

“A SUCKER FOR GREAT SERVICE”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We arrived at ts he restaurant about 12:30 with a 2:00 reservation after a driving tour of the Headlands National Park. The hostess told us she would fit us in as soon as she could or we could be seated at the bar immediately. We chose to wait as there was a nice outside area where we could sit and wait. We then decided maybe we would have some wine while we waited. The hostess referred us to another lady who was either a very accomplished waitress or a owner. She gave us several suggestion on wine and we chose one. She then brought out the wine with three very nice wine glasses, an opener ,and an ice bucket as well as some linen napkins. She waited until we told her the wine was great-which it was before she went back inside. Lo and behold a few minutes later another person showed up to ask how we were doing and how the wine was. Our hostess came and got us around 1 pm for our lunch. We all got the sushi lunch special which was six or seven pieces of sushi, a spring roll and a bowl of miso soup. I decided I would like a sake and asked the same person who had brought us our wine for her suggestions and she gave me one which turned out to be the best sake I have ever had. The sushi was wonderful. The place was not cheap but the food and wine were top end and the service was outstanding. Would gladly go again

“Expensive sushi”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Sushi Ran is a bit upscale, and the prices very upscale. We sought it out as an alternative to the tourist spots on the main drive, and were very pleased with the quieter atmosphere and and more restrained decor. The food was above average, not stellar, and the "box lunches" had enough to feed at least two people. Service was off a bit, efficient in taking the order and getting it to us, but absent after that. Adequate for lunch break away from the crowds, but nothing remarkable.

“A Lot of Hype but Just OK Sushi”
Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I recently ate at Sushi Ran while in Sausalito on our way to San Francisco from Napa. This restaurant had a lot of hype and we were very excited to eat here. Unfortunately the sushi was underwhelming...rolls were fairly bland and overly complicated with 3-4 types of fish that didn't really work together. Even a roll as simple as spicy tuna was overly complicated with a strange dry rub sprinkled over the top...my wife and I are serious sushi eaters and even we thought it was strange and not that tasty. Very expensive and underwhelming food...next time we are in Sausalito we will be dining elsewhere.

“Out of the Way Gem with Amazing Service and Food”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

A friend suggested we try this restaurant in Sausalito because they had a wonderful meal and couldn't stop raving about it. I said "yada, yada, yada" and didn't believe that it could be as amazing as he said.

Well, was I ever wrong. This place has an amazing menu with incredible sashimi, rolls and sushi plus a nice selection of beef and tempura. We order a little of everything and I have to say the rolls and sushi were delicious and a light course of beef was also delicious and added a great perspective to our meal.

The restaurant is located in a non-touristy area of the city and the service is casual, warm Northern California. We sat in he enclosed porch and we felt like we were in Europe because you basically own the table until you are ready to leave, no rushing. The owner even came by our table to check on the meal and see that we were pleased with our experience.

The wine list is also perfect and has amazing Rieslings that pair well with sushi plus a good selection of reds as well.

I would definitely recommend that you experience this out of the way gem when you are in Northern California.
