Ate here last night. Our waiter, Sheldon, was sweating profusely as though he had been running all over. Turns out he had. His pride in this place shows, He recommended the clam chowder which took first place for the third year in a row in the Chowder Souper Bowl. He even took a dig a Spinnakers.
The bread was good albeit more butter beyond the two pats would have been nice. Multi-grain, sourdough, and rosemary focaccia.
Grilled calamari with the arugula in the middle? WOWZA!
I had the Friday - Sunday special of lobster (hence the included Chowder, more on that later), cole slaw and corn on the cob. Sheldon was quick to put a bib on me which adds to the fun.
Wife had angel hair pasta with all seafood but no cod.
We were seated a Table #6. Go up the stairs and make two left turns. Table Six is against a wall and one person is sitting with his/ her back to an open door. Also next to the open door is the server station.
This table does not lend itself to a slow enjoyable meal as busboys are constantly sprinting by with tubs full of seafood, waiters are running/ walking fast, and servers keep getting silverware and plates from the server station area. The table is also close to the elevator and the traffic with that. Finally, Table 6 has a great view of the door to the kitchen. Some of the servers/ busboys were calling out to each other in loud voices which added to the din.
While we waited for the entrees, I had a cup of black coffee. It was burned. Smell the coffee before serving is my thought.
I also got to see a credit card go missing. Table 7 was sure they had put the credit card in the fake leatherette billfold that your bill comes in but with everyone racing around, the card may have gone missing/ landed under someone's table. Now you had a waiter, the host, the manager, and a busboy walking around bent over trying to spot the missing credit card.
My suggestion overall is to SLOW DOWN.
The special was excellent. The lobster is worth every penny. Wife's angel hair was meant to have lobster in it but did not. Sheldon the waiter was quick to fix this with a side of lobster. Again, SLOW DOWN.
The chowder comes in a silver tureen and then is poured into your soup bowl. It is good albeit I prefer Hog Island's Ferry Building clam chowder.
My corn on the cob was late getting to the table but was hot. Glad it did not sit on the pass!
Overall, a couple would be better served taking Table 10 in the alcove by the kitchen.
Great food. OK service. I was charged $7.99 for the clam chowder that was supposed to have been included with the lobster special. It was taken off but again, SLOW DOWN. Mistakes like this do not need to happen.
Is the place understaffed? Why is Sheldon working Tables 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14?
Tough to find parking in the free spots outside but patience/ circling are rewarded.
Just over $100 for two, with coffee, no drinks, no dessert.
