“Great cozy boutique alternative to SF...”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

We just stayed at the Gables Inn a week ago... for 5 nights with our 12 year old son. We chose Sausalito as a lower key alternative to the bustle of downtown San Francisco for our first trip there as a family...and it delivered! We loved the town of Sausalito with all it's shop-lined streets, convenience to ferries, beautiful views and yummy restaurants. We do a good bit of research before our trips so were not surprised by the Gables Inn...but we loved it! It exceeded our expectations in so many ways: very friendly staff, delicious breakfasts each day, helpful when we had questions, extremely comfy beds, cozy location perched on the hill @ Princess Street overlooking quaint downtown... but relatively quiet. Our windows opened to the cool SF air....in the 60s in late June! Nice alternative to the 113 degrees we missed in GA that week! We loved the Gables for it's cozy charm and personal touch...but have to mention a few small things: our first two nights we stayed in a more expensive ($400/nt) room due to availability issues...and that room had broken window cranks (which you will want to open to let in the nice, cool air) as well as missing handles on the bathroom sink. When we inquired about this we were told that was just the way it was. Our last 3 nights were spent in an identical room a floor below (without the limited view of SF from the window)...and the window cranks worked fine and the bathroom faucets were intact...for nearly an $80 per night savings. All in all...we had a great experience though and the problems were small things considering. I would highly recommend the Gables and especially Sausalito. The ferry to SF is a literal 5 minute walk away...and we had a yummy dinner at Angelino's and at Napa Valley Burger Co....both of which were suggested by Gables staff. Lovely place...miss it already!!

Room Tip: Don't bother choosing the pricier upper level rooms....they are identical to the cheaper ones a...

We found the Gables Inn online, and it certainly lives up to everything on the website. Great location, and wonderful staff. The included breakfast and evening wine and cheese complete the experience. We had the Cedar room, which was nice and big, and well appointed, but a bit dark as it is at ground level, and the vegetation is a bit overgrown. This provides lots of privacy, but we are big natural lights fans.
We would absolutely come back, but probably choose a room on a higher level.
We thank the staff for a great experience.

We went to Sausalito to celebrate my wife's birthday with a romantic evening and a day of sailing. We stumbled across the Gables totally by accident and we both LOVED it! All the staff (especially Sissy) were great, service was excellent, location - PERFECT! We really loved the place and will definetly be staying there again. It was so nice, it actually made Sausalito a more desireable 'getaway destination' for us!

Room Tip: If you care about a special view, look on their website. Be aware, not all the rooms are listed. I d...

Stayed here for four nights at end of June. This was our second visit, last one four years ago,and again we were delighted. We had the willow room which has great views over to SF from the balcony. It is very comfortable and lovely toiletries are provided.
Breakfasts are great, plenty of everything, only downside it can become a little crowded round the table.
Cheese and wine reception superb!
Staff are very helpful and friendly.thank you for being so tolerant of our celebrations.
Would highly recommend to couples.hope to return sometime again.

Room Tip: Ask for one with views over the bay to SF

I would go out of my way to return to this special bed and breakfast, known as The Gables Inn!

The Gables Inn Sausalito is wonderful in its views, location and staff. I had an opportunity to spend several nights in the Lilac room; which highlights a large spa tub and an expansive deck looking across the bay towards the San Francisco skyline. I still cannot decide whether I enjoyed sleeping(in) in the Lilac room or waking up to watch the sail boats drift by on the water.

What A Treat!

The Inn is brilliantly balanced between the best of historical preservation and modern renovations. I learned the building has its own special detailed history and is one of the oldest in Sausalito. I would encourage you to speak with Michael/General Manager in person about the Inn or any of his service standards. He does a great job of explaining his philosophy on service and the extra little touches he adds which are designed to go largely unnoticed, but relax the mind in a Feng Shui type of way. Perfect combination for a B&B.

Impressive grounds from the fine well kept wood to the Flowers; I was there for a week and noticed the lobby (re)decorated with the most sophisticated and exotic arrangements.
Sausalito is a wonderful waterfront town, especially the main strip by the water...and The Gables Inn Sausalito is conveniently situated to experience the full lifestyle. It's a quiet hotel, just over a dozen rooms I believe, and offers something for everyones preferences. If you want a room that feels like home and has the basic amenities that option is available, but if you want one that offers a view or space or just plain awesome you can find it here. We looked at a few, ultimately we went with the Lilac because we wanted a spacious room, outdoor seating, and a VIEW all at a fair price.
Almost forgot the breakfast offerings and the wine & cheese gathering. *Sissy Rocks!* It might be fair to rate her one of the best bartenders in the city, although i don't have enough information on the others- I'd still cast my ballot with her name on it. A simple wine and cheese night with pleasant music. Its the perfect pre dinner event. Its open to all guests, some nights busier than others. We attended almost every night we were there and found Sissy to be so lovely, we tried convincing her to fly to NY so that we could hire her to serve wine & cheese one night at a dinner party.

Hey, Now that I think about it- if we had Michael doing breakfast (and of course managing our estate), Sissy for Wine & Cheese and The Gables Inn for accommodation...we'd have it all.

The room was very nice, and the staff were very pleasant. Wine and cheese were offered every evening, which was great, because this allowed guest to mingle with others staying at the hotel. Two of my friends and I stayed for the weekend, we have decided, we will stay at the Gable Inn again! Great experience.....

We were late from the airport and thought we had missed the wine & cheese. Jenny left it out a few minutes late and it was fabulous. She then had a great recommendation for a close by dinner location and that was tasty also. The bed was comfy, the room adequate size and the guest services superb. Breakfast was the best of our trip. I'm looking forward to our next visit.
