This is our second time staying here, and again we were not disappointed. The rooms are lovely, and what a view. Wake up in the morning and look across San Francisco Bay, they do complimentary breakfast, but for an extra $3 have it in your room out on the deck. After having a busy day in SF coming back to the Inn and out on your deck is so peaceful- just wonderful. The staff are so friendly and helpful too.also, complimentary cheese and wine early evening.Sausalito itself is such a pretty town,stroll/or use the free bicycles from the Inn along the harbour to view the houseboats is a must ,with some great restaurants, we only stayed 3 nights, and went to Poggio and Scomas- great food.Just a short trip away is Muir woods with the giant Redwood trees.

I just wrote a review of the Fairmont in Sonoma that said that the value was not there for the price. This place is quite the opposite. For the same price, we had an outstanding room with a beautiful balcony with the bay below our feet....wow! And, it included continental breakfast and a wine/cheese afternoon snack. Simply wonderful... The service was impeccable, the room was delightful, the bed so cushy. And San Francisco is only 15 minutes away... or you can take a ferry just a few steps away to Fisherman's Wharf and it is a 30 minute ferry ride. Absolutely fantastic find... Will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: I think any would be great but we had the one with the fireplace...and we used it!

Nothing better than waking from a fabulous night's sleep to see San Francisco across the bay from your balcony. The staff was incredibly helpful with restaurant recommendations, and the room was lovely.

A beautiful hotel tucked amidst Sausalito's art galleries. A ferry ride away from san Francisco. Lovely cosy rooms... beautiful view of the bay. Fireplaces in the room. Long walks in the beautiful main street of Sausalito. Nice roomy balcony. A happy hour everyday..free drinks, fruit and varieties of cheese!

Room Tip: It was an awesome experience... choose any room facing the bay! there is no way of rating the pools...

Previous reviews have said it very well. It really is a spectacular view. We stayed in the Bay View room, 1st floor with big balcony and wood burning fireplace. My husband used to be in the air pollution prevention business and was concerned about the smell from the wood burning fireplace. While he was on the balcony that evening, I lit the fire and the ambience was fabulous. Took bubble baths everynight in the huge, jet tub and had a fire everynight. We were there for four nights and enjoyed every minute. We watched the sailboats from the Americas Cup race in the bay. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. The wine and cheese reception was delightful. The bed was very comfy. Yes, it is pricey, but I would definitely do it again.

Room Tip: Bay view room (109 I think) was roomy with jet tub, wood burning fireplace and large balcony right o...

The Inn above the Tide in Sausalito is a boutique hotel with a truly outstanding location across the bay from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. Great and very attentive staff, handy parking, great views, a comfortable bed and despite the rather hefty price tag, well worth the money.

We wanted a king room but when we booked on line from the UK only deluxe queen rooms were available. Room 208 has a corner balcony which is a bonus extending the views from the room without being “on show” to the people in adjacent bars/restaurants or those disembarking the ferry.

The only downside to our stay was that the room was quite small. We were only staying for 2 nights on our way between Yellowstone and Jenner so that in itself wasn’t much of a problem but I do wish that this hotel, like so many others, wouldn’t occupy all the horizontal spaces in the room with literature and snacks to purchase. Also the shelves in the one wardrobe were occupied by things one might need such as a hair dryer and an ice bucket but why have an iPod docking station (in addition to the one on the bedside table) which took up one of the four shelves in the wardrobe. It wasn’t that we could use it as the walls are not vey soundproofed which meant we could hear some of the antics in the adjacent room!

On the whole, I think the Inn above the Tide is a fabulous hotel and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay close but not in San Francisco. However, sometimes, less is more so it would be good if the hotel looked at some of the smaller rooms and de-cluttered for the benefit of their guests.

The Inn Above Tide has an incredible location! (Yes, DO ask for a room with a balcony. It is worth it ;-)

We stayed for several nights in a King-bedded room with a balcony and a gas fireplace. (We aren't fans of gas fireplaces, so we never used it. We were at this property for the view and the balcony, anyway!)

THE BED WAS THE MOST COMFORTABLE WE HAVE SLEPT IN. It was like being enveloped in a cushy cocoon, but it was NOT "too soft". We aren't sure "how they made a bed like that". Even the jumbo pillows (and we do mean "jumbo") were unbelievably soft - and we have extra nice down pillows at home, for comparison.
There was just something about being in that bed, with those pillows, and that down comforter. We are seriously considering getting a mattress like this when we next get a new mattress (a time that is probably closer than we recognize).

The VIEW! What can one say? It was like being on a cruise, with the water RIGHT UNDER YOUR BALCONY. Well, we were on the 3rd floor, so there was a small protrusion from the larger balcony just under us, but otherwise, it was ALL WATER. This isn't just an "water view" hotel. This is OVER the water. It was even better than we expected.

The last night, we splurged, and upgraded to the "penthouse" (which is also on the 3rd floor; that's the "top" floor). This was a surprise for Dear Husband, when he returned from a busy conference day, and the grin on his face was worth it ;-)
This is a huge room, not really a suite (there is no separation between the bedroom and the living room, so it's probably not suitable for most business entertaining).
There was a huge supply of firewood, and one of the staff was on the spot in about one minute to light it. (There were no matches, probably for safety. The staff uses a little fireplace lighter, which is also much easier than going through a bunch of matches.)
We kept the fire going all evening.

This is the "room" with the huge bathtub in a glassed in enclosure on part of what would have been the other side of the balcony. (It took us a few minutes to realize that there were motorized blinds that can be lowered on the two huge floor-to-ceiling windows.)

The ONLY slight negative is that the penthouse is on the far end, and the balcony overlooks (and is visible from) the restaurant/bar not too far away. There was no noise problem, but we did have a few people who were eating at the bar - also overlooking the bay - waving and frequently watching, and that was a bit off-putting. Once sitting on the balcony, it's less of a concern, but standing up there, it was a bit awkward.

There was also an extra half bath, which was an unexpected convenience, especially when getting ready to leave the next morning.

We WILL be back, and we'll make a point of spending a few extra days the next time!

This was our first visit to Sausalito, and as one rounds the final turn (after exiting the Golden Gate Bridge), the home set into the hillside, overlooking the water... our first thought was that we were transported to Italy or the south of France. It is a charming area!

NOTE: The regular rooms are indeed rather small, but one doesn't (or shouldn't) stay here for "large bedrooms". This is a LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION hotel, without a doubt!

The hotel staff recommended a particular sailboat captain to take us sailing one afternoon. He was very personable, with great information about the areas we visited. Next time, we hope to go for an all-day sail with him.
He was remarkably comfortable handling the large sailboat on his own, even though neither of us has much experience, so we were truly just "passengers".

Room Tip: Do ask for a BALCONY. We'd suggest room 308, which has a king bed, and although it has one of t...
