We visited the Inn Above Tide for 2 nights in January. After reading many positive tripadvisor reviews, we decided to splurge for the first part of our honeymoon. When we arrived, we were greeted by the very friendly front desk staff, who parked our car, brought in our luggage, and informed us of the complimentary upgrade to one of the larger suites. Our room was on the first floor, had a wood burning fireplace, an AMAZINGLY large jacuzzi-type bathtub and a balcony with a fantastic view of the SF bay and alcatraz. Bed was large and cozy, fully stocked mini-bar, complimentary slippers and cozy robes to use. They also gave us a bottle of champagne to help celebrate our honeymoon.
They offer a nightly wine and cheese reception and a nice continental breakfast spread with yogurt, fruit, assorted breads etc. The Inn was very quiet while we were there as they are to be closing for awhile for renovations, but it is in the heart of Sausalito and walking distance to many restaurants and shops. All staff that we met was very friendly, polite, accomodating and gave us plenty of recommendations for our stay. The price is on the high side, but in my opinion well worth it, especially for a special occasion.
Hopefully we will be able to return to celebrate future anniversaries!

Room Tip: we were upgrading to a suite with a wood burning fireplace and large jacuzzi tub; didn't see any...

The "Inn Above Tide" is a perfect place to stay when visiting the San Francisco Bay Area. Your balcony overhangs the Bay and is back dropped by the City of San Francisco. The rooms are perfectly laid out and appointed with class and functionality. The staff is very accommodating and quite willing to make recommendations and reservations. Would definitely be a place we would stay at again.

I stayed here on a recommendation from a local and I am very glad I did. It is right in the heart of Sausalito - you'll be able to take advantage of their valet parking and forget about your car for the rest of your stay here.

The staff were extremely helpful even before arrival - rooms weren't actually available for all the duration of my originally intended stay, so my name was added to a list and I was contacted when there was a cancellation. Nice personal touch!

I booked a small room - I was only by myself - but the room itself was quite spacious and very well appointed using high quality materials. And did I mention the view?! Take a look at the photos I have attached to this review. I took them all on my camera phone or on my larger camera.

The view is simply stunning - I was lucky enough to wake up before dawn every day I was there and I got to see the sunrise, and even saw seals swimming right outside my window!

Comfortable bed, Bulgari soap / shampoo, amazing location, the best view imaginable, good breakfast, free newspaper - what more can you ask for? A real gem as others have said, close to everything.

Do yourself a favour and splurge a little to stay here. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: A view! Make sure you get a room with a view!

newspapers? free. Robes and slippers? free. Each night ,cheese+wine-free. And that view!
We spent a wonderful 6 days there , using it as a base. The ferry was passing within hailing distance of our room,20 minutes to San Francisco.
Oh, and there was an i-pad dock and a safe....Boutique hotel? it had everything (except a restaurant...)

Room Tip: They are all good!

On a friends recommendation, we booked our arrival night in this wonderful hotel. About 40 minutes north of the SF airport, this was a convenient stop on our way to wine country. The location was so charming, the staff so gracious, we booked 2 more nights on our way south & visiting San Francisco. The ferry is a couple of hundred feet from the Inn and a marvelous ride into the port & Marketplace, a foodie's dream. The rooms look out to the Bay & the view of San Francisco at night is lovely. I would recommend upgrading to a room with a balcony & having your breakfast delivered. Totally worth every penny.

Room Tip: fireplace & balcony!

Recently spent 3 nights there in a queen deluxe room with a gas fireplace and private balcony. Small luxury hotel located on main street in Sausalito and adjacent to the ferry pier. All rooms have a private balcony with a view across the bay to the San Francisco skyline. Location is great ... within walking distance of many shops and restaurants in Sausalito; next to the ferry pier where you can board a ferry for a short trip (20-25 min) across the bay to San Francisco (to both Ferry Bldg and Pier 39); easy walk to the Sausalito marina; and the view is outstanding. We opted to stay here and take the ferry across the bay rather than face the traffic and parking challenges in San Francisco. This worked out perfectly for us. The rooms are more expensive than others in the Sausalito area, but well worth it for 2-3 nights or for that special occasion. Valet parking is available with in/out privileges or you could choose to park in a public lot nearby. Free wifi in rooms and in lobby. Free bike rentals for hotel guests, although we did not partake of this opportunity. The bath amenities include Bvlgari products.

The service was great and everyone was very helpful. They seemed to have maps and information on everything we requested. Rooms were exceptionally clean and beds were very comfortable. The room itself was adequate in size, with a comfy sitting area in front of the fireplace. We'd probably choose a king room next time just to get a little more space. Very nice continental breakfast included lots of fresh fruit and a variety of breads and pastries, plus cereals and yogurt. Complimentary wine and cheese for 2 hours each evening in room next to lobby. You could take both the breakfast items as well as the wine to your room and eat/drink while sitting on your balcony, enjoying the view. Very relaxing!!! Will definitely return.

My wife and ended our trip up the Northern California coast on Hwy 1 with a one night stay in this fairly small botique hotel. We completely enjoyed it. Please note, this is a small botique and you will not have the facilities of a large metropolitan hotel.

What you will have is very good friendly service, decor that truely fits its seaside enviornment, a wonderful complimentary wine and cheeze buffet in the early evening, and THE BEST views of San Francisco Bay and the San Francisco skyline that you can possibly imagine. We really, really found it romantic to sit outside on the lanai of our room and enjoy the lapping of the water only a few feet below and gaze at the awe inspiring views of the Bay Bridge and that great city.

If you want to do Sausalito on foot, you could not ask for a better location. Though RIGHT in the middle of town, all the rooms face the ocean and so it is very quiet ('cept when the Ferry from SFO arrives, but that is no big deal and is actually interesting).

The interior decor of the rooms is very California trendy. Not all rooms have fireplaces but ours did and we used is all during the late evening.

Only quibble is the rooms are a tad small for the price but all the rooms have a lanai which really is part of the room and provides much of the value.

We would return on future trips to No. Cal. Incidently, if you've never taken the trip up Hwy 1 it is among the most beautiful coast line drives you can possibly imagine. We go to Hawaii a lot and the No. CA coast is as beautiful and in many ways even more dramatic. Plan on spending a whole day to get from San Francisco to say Mendocino (a great place to do a couple of days in a B and B) with lots of view point stops along the way and perhaps a stroll through a redwood forest. A fantastic trip but be prepared for windy, and we do mean windy, roads. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Unless its summer, get one with a fireplace if you can afford it. It's just lovely to sit in be...
