An amazing experience for kids of all ages. Esp. kids with an interest in veterinary care or animal husbandry. Really interesting place for a school trip, as the kids get to learn so much about the whole process, from intake through autopsy.

This is a great place that takes care of mammals who have been injured or are sick and need help. It's interesting watching the seals get well and they are always so entertaining. A great place to see, admire the volunteers and see their efforts being rewarding
when they get to release these guys back into the bay!

This is a very interesting place. Remember the sounds the velociraptors made in Jurassic Park? That was actually a baby elephant seal. They have quite a bizarre cackling cry and it is quite an experience to listen to 60 crying out at once. The tour was a little limited, we had hoped to get closer to the animals. A web cam on the dolphins and seals in the back would be cool. Be sure to book a tour (there was a coupon on their website when we booked ours). I wouldn't make a separate trip to see this place, but it would be a great side trip with a day at Rodeo Beach, the Bay Model Visitors Center, and the Nike Missile site.

Lots to learn about seal, sea lions and harbor seals. The MMC rescues hurt or stranded marine mammals. You can see the animals sunning themselves by their pools. Not an aquarium or animal show, but interesting for all ages, maybe 8 and up.

This place has obviously been able to drum-up donors (and for a good cause!), because it is quite modern (except for one older building, housing the surgery and the harbor seals) and even has a gift shop. We were here on a weekday and there were teen and pre-teen school groups being escorted. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our visit, opting for the audio-tour headphones, which provided a well-narrated, informative journey through the facilities open to the public. Most animals on display were baby elephant seals, although 4 other species of pinniped were in residence. The place is easy enough to find by car on a sunny day - just download the directions, or get the "Marin Headlands" map from the National Park Service websites, or a GGNRA office. The location is good because you're near Rodeo Beach, which is a good (but popular on weekends) place for a walk. Be sure to drive up McCullough Rd to Hawk Hill while you're here. to take in one of the best views in the world, one worth bringing the camera for. (There's bird-banding on fall weekends there, too.)
