We were in San Francisco Labor Day weekend, and rode tandem bikes into Sausalito, bumping into their famous annual arts festival. When we got to the front of the line to enter, and they asked us for a significant entrance fee (I can't recall whether it was $75 or more for our family of 4) we almost passed, cause who needs to pay a lot to walk around and look at stuff we don't really need right now. We were glad we did, because the art was interesting to see and we did not expect the band Amerca to be there and play their hits with the bay as their backdrop. Fantastic, and worth every cent.

Sausalito is proud of their history and this outpost is a fantastic representation of "days of yore". Nice people volunteering to give information to both locals and tourists about what it was like in the past here in Sausalito.

I wandered into the visitor by accident - I had never noticed it before in all the times we have visited Sausalito. It is a fascinating record of Sausalito's past (sometimes seamy sometimes grand!) It was especially interesting to read about WW 2 and see the photos of the huge ship building yard and also the bootlegging years!

We rented bicycles and rode over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. This town is exquisite. We had lunch at Scoma's Restaurant with an excellent view of the harbor. While the downtown is a bit of a tourist trap, the surrounding town is very picturesque and if you are in San Francisco, it is worth the trip over. By car it is only about 15 minutes form the city.

We stopped by here when we got off the ferry from San Francisco. We only had a few hours there and the woman at the boot was very helpful with pointing out places of interest and even gave us a recommendation for lunch.
