I've been wine tasting many times but this was my first experience at ForFriends Inn in San Ynez. I've been to many friendly place but none as warm and inviting as ForFriends Inn. The facility is spotlessly clean; breakfasts are amazing; Jim and a friend play guitar at cocktail (wine) hour; Debbie makes cookies in the evening. I left a jade necklace there and before I realized it was missing I received an email from Jim that he was sending it to me. Indeed, we came as strangers and left as friends and I can't wait to go back. One last accolade: Smitty, the resident dog, is as kind and friendly as everyone else at ForFriends.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for this wonderful 5-star review. We're SO happy to hear that you've received the jade necklace. It is such a beautiful piece, we wanted to get it back to you as soon as possible.

We love that you feel that you're left as friends. . . our #1 goal achieved! We try our best to be a friendly place for folks who want to get away to wine/cycling/horse country and enjoy themselves. It was even fun more that you here with your friends (who themselves had been here before). It warms our hearts to see folks having such a good time. It also warms Smitty's heart. ;^p

Thanks again for this wonderful review.

See you soon!

Let me add my voice to the many people who have stayed in and enjoyed this inn. My husband and I stay in B & Bs when ever possible. We love the camaraderie and the small, personal touches. We have fallen in love with several of them over the years - they have all been at least two days drive from home. Imagine our glee when we fell in love with an inn within 2 hours of home. There isn't much that I can add that hasn't been said before. The rooms are beautifully decorated, not fussy, well appointed and sparkling clean. The breakfasts are as advertised - hearty and delicious. Like most of the inns we love, however, it is the innkeepers that make the difference. It's the feeling that they really care about your stay and want you to have a really good time. They are interested in their guests and offer incites into the area that only a local can give. Debby and Jim are that sort of innkeeper. This is the first time we've ever been serenaded. Jim has a very thick book of songs he can perform and we all joined in for a rousing chorus or two during the wine and cheese hour before spreading out to the various restaurants in the area. If I were going to nit pick I'd wish for a good reading light or two. We will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Palmira Tower. It is two stories with a nice little patio over looking the "w...

Thanks so much for this wonderful 5-star review! To receive such wonderful words from someone who has traveled so extensively is truly an honor (289 cities visited! . . . I hope you can return again soon so we can chat about those adventures.). We love what we do, but to hear such high praises from those who know (and enjoy) travel makes us blush (and proud). Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We love hearing about ways we can improve and noticed your wish for more reading lamps. Thanks for that and we'll take that to heart. One question we had is about the location of the lamps. Since you stayed in the tower, are there specific areas where you'd like to see them? We do have a nice floor lamp with downward shade on the second floor. It has a three-way bulb and long extension cord, allowing folks to move the lamp nearly anywhere up there. Perhaps you mean a different kind of lamp or another location(s). We absolutely welcome your input. PLEASE, feel free to email or call us with more info so we can improve any/all spaces for reading. Thanks a million!

It appears that we're all lucky since we're only two hours from you. . . Maybe that means we'll see you again very soon! Yea!

We just left after a 3 day stay at ForFriends Inn and we couldn't have enjoyed it more. Beautiful home, lovely and most accommodating hosts Jim and Debbie, and the Demetria room we stayed in was perfect. Terrific breakfast made to order with homemade breads, and evening wine and Hors d'oeuvres accompanied by entertainment from Jim! We felt most welcome and will surely return. Highly recommended!!

Karen,

It's nice to hear that you made it home safe and sound. Thanks for the update!

And thank you for this wonderful 5-star review. It's especially and honor to receive one from folks who have visited the Santa Ynez Valley for so many years. We know you have many choices of places to stay and were so happy you found us. We so enjoyed meeting you and being able to chat about the many ice skating connections we both have. That's the best part of being innkeepers — meeting the nicest, most interesting folks. When we have something in common, it's just icing on the cake. I REALLY love your approach to coaching, it was very enlightening. I look forward to more conversation in the future.

Thanks again for the wonderful review.

See you soon!

We stayed here as part of a Carmichael Training Systems Cycling Camp. At first glance we were a bit concerned since they don’t like bikes stored on the property but we discovered that Jim is an avid cyclist and camp graduate and that the Inn was a perfect spot to rest up during the Ride, Eat, Sleep cycle of a CTS camp.

This is a great B&B Inn. Perfect location in the middle of town within easy walking distance to good restaurants and shops. The inn has gated off street parking and several rooms with private entrances. The property is gorgeous but the real attractions are Jim and Deb (and Smitty the wonder dog!) are great hosts who go out of their way to make your stay special. Shortly after you check in they have you feeling not only welcome but part of the family.

We stayed in the Demetria Room on the second floor. We loved the room with its small porch that overlooks the entry and the free standing electric cast iron stove. The spacious room is beautifully appointed, with a nice sized bathroom (featuring a separate shower and large jacuzzi - very handy after hard workouts!). The bed was very comfortable, and the room immaculate.

The food is simply wonderful. Freshly made breakfast daily and Debbie was more than willing to accommodate folks special diets or allergies. Fresh breads, yogurt and fruit, coffee/juice plus a daily special entree. In the evening there is a happy hour featuring local wines and a deli tray, including homemade tapenade! Later in the evening home baked cookies would appear (some gluten free!) We can speak from personal experience that they achieve their goal of having you come as guests and leave as friends.

We aren’t sure when our next trip to the lovely Santa Ynez valley will be but we do know where we will be staying!

Thanks SO much for this wonderful 5-star review. We're so happy that you enjoyed your stay here. We know from experience how wonderfully challenging (and rewarding) the CTS camps can be, so to be able to make your time here that conformable and enjoyable really makes us smile.

Thanks also for the bike computer. It is quite a handy tool for my wonderful road bike trips throughout the Santa Ynez Valley. Hopefully, you'll be able to return soon and we can ride together. That would be a blast. I'm sure you miss Fig Mountain already. . . ;^p

This is a wonderful B&B run by Jim and Debbie, the most charming hosts you could wish for. If you are staying in this area, stay here if you can, and you will not regret it.

The room is nicely decorated, clean, and as comfortable as you would expect, with nice quite air-con. Breakfast is very good, and as vegetarians we were very well catered for. But all this (good though it is) is eclipsed by the warm atmosphere ...

Each evening there is a happy hour with complimentary wine and nibbles, and Jim plays guitar and sings songs! This was a complete surprise to me, and is a perfect way to break the ice with your fellow guests, and to relax and enjoy the evening. Jim's songbook is eclectic to say the least, from 60's classics to modern day. Any man who can take on Adele, Pink Floyd and the Beach Boys gets my respect!

Jim also gave us some good wine tasting advice, and helped get the best from our time here. For sure, if we come back to the area, there is no where else for us.

Ian,

Thanks so much for your wonderful 5-star review. What a treat it was having you both here, chatting, enjoying good food and wine, and joining in the happy hour sing-alongs. As contemporaries (albeit from across the pond) we seem to have the same taste in music, which made it that much more fun.

We're glad that you both enjoyed the special vegetarian breakfast dishes and hors d'oeuvres that Debbie is so good at preparing. Our goal is to make sure everyone enjoys her wonderful cooking and, in addition to Debbie's many breakfast offerings, she sure has created some delicious vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes (and cookies!).

We realize it's a LONG way from England, but we sure hope that one day you'll find your way here again and we'll sing even longer and more joyfully out in our newly designed Wine Garden.

Cheers!

Jim, Debbie, Dave, Katie. . . and Smitty.

We had such a wonderful time at For Friends. Jim and Deb (and Smitty) were all superb hosts and accommodating. Rooms were beautiful and relaxing. Breakfast was delicious and had a homemade and cared for taste. Happy hour provided us all with wine and music each night.
Very convenient to everything Santa Ynez has to offer. Will definitely be making our way back here again and recommending For Friends to Our Friends! :D

Hi Bryan & Janis,

Sorry so late in responding to your wonderful review. It was so great having you two here during your wine country getaway. We hope you enjoyed the cozy Carmichael Cottage. We're so happy that you could take advantage of our Friendship Pass and visit so many great wineries and restaurants. Wondering which were your favorites?

BTW, Smitty misses you both and wishes that you'll come back to say hi.

From the first interaction, it’s apparent this establishment is one of those rare, gems that's all about their guests connection and experience. Not a detail is overlooked - from personally prescreening an extensive list of recommended wineries that include complimentary tasting fees (which must have saved us at least $100), to every aspect of room comfort, to warmly performing evening wine-tasting music, to personally preparing a scrumptious multi-course breakfast, to helping confirm dinner reservations and discovering on return a generous platter of delicious assorted home-made cookies. Such constant attentiveness to guest comfort reaffirms an absolute caring. Most B&Bs and some specialty hotels aim to deliver this experience - but very few actually succeed. Jim & Debbie are those unique, incredible treasures for travelers to find and feel celebrated in their delightful home embrace. We are so looking forward to returning.

Wow, thanks so much for this wonderful 5-star review! We try so hard to make sure everyone experiences "the perfect day" here Santa Barbara Wine Country, so to hear that you two had such a good time is music to our ears. And to hear that you've already booked a second trip in May makes us very proud . . . and happy. We'll be sure that your next visit is just as enjoyable. (The weather will be gorgeous in May too!)
