What a wonderful Regional Park, could easily be rated a State Park because it has a portable bathroom, which does not smell, it has well marked hiking trails, it is quiet and serene, and it offers spectacular views of the valley all the way to SF and the Bay! It is not for the faint of heart. It starts at Pythian rd, most which is one lane going up to parking. It is a $6 fee ( credit cards accepted). The start is pretty rigorous, will get your heart pounding, bit levels off in spots. The final .3-.5miles is again pretty deep but well worth the view at the top. Make the added .5 mile hike out to the Gunsight Rock. Spectacular!

This regional park has some great hiking trails including one or two that give the hiker views of Sonoma and Napa Valleys. A great way to do a hike is to use the Sugar Shuttle from either Sugarloaf Ridge Park or Pythian Rd and then hike back to your car.

Good workout and fabulous views. Nice variety of terrain and wildlife. The October fires left some scars, but lots of new growth.

I made it to the top of Hood Mountain on my second attempt. Steep. Not very long. Just up and up and up. I read about a Mount Everest hiker that hike Hood Mountain twice a day in preparation. I use this hike and Sugarloaf Ridge Bald Mountain to get in shape for hiking in Glacier National Park.

This is/was by far the best park in this whole area for hiking and enjoying the beautiful forests, variety of terrain, views, and species of trees in this area. Alas, most has been destroyed by the recent fires. Have not been able to access the damage yet due to hazardous conditions, but have been told it is very extensive. Hopefully, in time the area will re-generate and once again be the fabulous nature experience it once was.
