The experience was overall nice. Warm and friendly receptionist at check-in (though I had to wait as she finished what appeared to be a personal visit) and the lobby area was clean. The room was what dropped this review to a 3 and not a 4. Light bulb out in standing light by couch, sink stopper broken, vacuum must have been full as the floor was a mess and too many foreign particles on bed when covers pulled back - nothing exceedingly gross but not clean either. Would stay here again as price was right - just need management and staff to pay attention to the details!

Dear jhskier1,

Thank you for staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Santa Rosa. Your comments are valuable as I see you contribute a lot to Trip Advisor. I am glad you found our staff friendly and your statement will help sensitize them to the impressions they make. I was surprised to hear about the cleanliness as we typically get high marks there. We are starting our renovation and will be done by Spring. I hope you will consider staying again.

Sincerely,
-Max

The hotel location is good and it is next to Hwy 101 for easy and convenient access to get in and out of Santa Rosa. However the hotel itself really could use a face lift and remodel the rooms. The room we got was quite small and tight, with bathroom sink outside the shower/toilet very much 90's style still. They have a wheel of fortune for the guests checking in to possibly win some prizes. However, the check-in staff was not attentive during the check-in process, and did not offer any amenities to us Gold members. The heating unit again was acting up with loud fan sound all night long and the bed was way too soft and worn down to get a good night's rest.
Overall, not impressed and will not return here for our next trip to the wine country.

Dear toga1k,

Cute puppy in your picture! Thank you for your stay and feedback. I regret our lack of service that is certainly not typical of the type of service we usually provide. You will be happy to know we start our grand renovation on Monday and will look great come Spring. I hope you will reconsider staying with us or at least stop by to see our improvements.

Sincerely,
-Max

We stayed at the Courtyard in August 2013. It was fine for our needs - nothing exceptional, but nothing horrendous. We stayed using a Marriott Friends & Family discount and had a great rate. The staff was able to process the Friends & Family form/discount without any problems.

The hotel was going through some renovations and looked like it would be even better upon completion. Our bathroom was small, but the rest of the room was fine.

The location near the historic Railroad Square is wonderful. Lots of places (restaurants) to walk to. There are many Snoopy and Peanuts statues in Railroad Square, including a bronze statue of Charlie Brown & Snoopy.

There is also a running/biking path that runs about 1/2 or 1 block from the hotel. The hotel is located near the end of the path, so make sure you start in the "right" direction to avoid having to turn around after 1/2 mile.

My wife and I spent a wonderful weekend with our best friends in Sonoma County last weekend. It turns out that the weekend before Christmas is a great time to do wine tasting (everyone else is out shopping or hanging with friends/family at home) and the Courtyard next to downtown Santa Rosa is a great central location to stay.

While the hotel lobby has been upgraded to the new look, the rest of the floors will undergo a renovation next year, so the accomodations are fine, but not great at this time. That said, the service was great and the location is ideal-whether it's to run down to the Flying Goat for a cup of coffee in the downtown entertainment district or hopping on the 101 to get to any of many wineries in the Dry Creek, Alexander Valley or Russian River Valley areas within minutes.

We started on a Friday afternoon visiting two great wineries. Calluna specializes in small lot Bourdeaux style wines-their Cabs are absolutely excellent and they have a great story behind their winery. Chalk Hill was our other stop. While more "corporate", it, too, has great wines-including their newly released cab sav that we ended up having with dinner-excellent!

Speaking of dinner, we enjoyed a phenonmenal meal at The Farmhouse off of River Road. They've earned a one-star Michellin rating-and deservedly so. It's not only a beautiful and quaint place to stay, but the food is outstanding-whether its breakfast or dinner.

On Saturday, we went to 6 different wineries The highlights were Sbragia Family Vineyards. Their wine is so good and their location so picturesque (just below Lake Sonoma in the western edge of Dry Creek) that we joined their wine club on the spot. We then enjoyed a wonderful picnic lunch by the river @ Truett-Hurst winery-including a lengthy wine-tasting with one of the owners.

On Sunday, we enjoyed a farewell luncheon at the Coppola Winery. This place is spectactular-particularly if you enjoy Francis Ford Coppola's films (Godfather, Apocolypse Now, Tucker, etc..) or fine dining on their veranda. It was a great way to end a perfect weekend (including spectacular weather) in the Sonoma wine country.

Stayed here many times. Not the lap of luxury but very good for the price. Extremely courteous and helpful staff and convenient location. Predictable (like many Courtyards) and nice bistro with cheery staff. Set out hors d'oeuvres and stockings filled with chocolates on Christmas Eve and aided guests with information regarding restaurant openings/closings.

I stayed at this Courtyard 3 different times. Each visit was very enjoyable and fulfilled all my needs. The food at the Bistro is very good. Every morning a good quality coffee was available at no cost. I only ate away from the hotel twice on my 3 stays. Location is close to Hwy 101 and within walking distance from the historic district, so a lot of things to see and do. I'll definitely stay again. Only con was that it is a little dated but overall very good.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 4th and 5th floors and they were superb.

My friends and I stayed at this Courtyard during a wine tasting weekend last month. I have stayed at many Courtyards and this one is average in every respect except the rooms and elevator.

In regard to the rooms, they were dated and small. As I understand the property will be renovated soon, and that should remedy my concerns that the rooms are tired and dated. The rooms themselves, including the closets, were tiny. My roommate and I were tripping over each other when passing between the vanity / bathroom area.

Their elevator also needs help. It looks like an older, slow hydraulic model with a layer of Formica for each time the hotel was renovated.

All-in-all it’s just an average Courtyard that needs a renovation.

Room Tip: Quiet side away from 101.
