“Nice hotel terrible bookkeeping”
Reviewed June 11, 2008

The hotel was nice, but I reserved a room for one night and they billed me for two nights. Apparently the check in document I signed said it was a two night reservation, but this was an error made by their staff that I did not catch. I am still trying to get a refund for the second night I was not there.

The Flamingo Resort was a landmark in Santa Rosa while I was growing up there. We now live in Nevada and it's no longer comfortable for our expanded family to stay with Dad so we decided to try the Flamingo which is only a few minutes drive from Dad's house.

What a wonderful surprise. Our room, a suite, looked out over the sunny swimming pool that's big enough for lap swimming.

The room looked to be recently remodeled with comfortable bedding and furnature and newly tiled bathroom and granit counters.

We had access to the spa, which I'm sure was great, but as we came with bikes, we easily rode to a wonderful Howerth Park where we enjoyed the great outdoors.

The Flamingo is just a few minutes from Dad's house so we spent most of our time visiting with Dad, but we will come back to the Flamingo again for future visits to Santa Rosa.

We brought our mid sized Sales Team (19 folks) here for one very warm night in May....after being in vineyards (we're in the industry) in record heat all day we gathered around the large and lovely pool in the evening until nearly midnight.
Although the exterior of the property has all the appeal of a bowling alley the grounds and pool are classic California mid-century resort chic....
The rooms are a bit sterile and overall the buildings look like a dated medical complex...but the enthusiastic, polite staff and common outdoor areas more than compensate for the architecture (or lack thereof).
We reserved a meeting room which was well laid out and perfect for our needs.
Overall a great venue at a reasonable price.

  • Liked — Great Pool close proximity to highways without noise

stayed here on a business trip, my room was a decent size with modern bed linens. easy parking, easy check-in ... good cooked breakfast, although the "continental" breakfast looked very basic, somthing like you'd see at a motel when they offer a free breakfast which consists of Cornflakes, Cheerios nasty pastries etc.....
Bathroom was very small and not cleaned properly. (see photo of hairs in bath tub).
Nice pool area with a resort feel to it ...
I'd stay again and bring the kids ....

The room was dated and smallish, and even though "remodeled/updated" it still had a 50s/60s feel - with original tile and tub, a little musty, so-so bath products, and very small bathroom. The grounds are nice; the rooms need help.
AND BEWARE: We asked for an early morning wakeup call to catch a plane at SFO. They didn't call! Lucky for them and us, we woke up 45 minutes late and dashed to SFO.
When you request a 3-star hotel on priceline in this area, hope that you get the Hyatt, Hilton, Fountaingrove Inn, or Doubletree instead! The Flamingo should be reduced to a 2-star rating on priceline!

The Flamingo is very conveniently located, close to upscale shopping, a supermarket, some good restaurants and very near the major Sonoma County highways. Every room is non-smoking, a definite plus. But beyond the rotating pink flamingo and a very nice pool area, the property is without distinction. Bathroom amenities are lacking. The walls are thin. The rooms reek of "hotel smell," and the staff is occasionally accomodating. I was furious to learn that the Flamingo charges $10 a day for wireless Internet access. When I complained to the front desk they told me to write a letter to the management. However, a more generous employee tipped me off that in the lobby of the more expensive "courtyard" building, wireless Internet was free. My room was pleasant enough, the bed was comfortable enough, everything worked well enough. I just wish my stay had been more memorable. Sometimes "good enough" is just not good enough.

As soon as we pulled up to the hotel, we fell in love with the massive pink neon sign.
Our room was comfy and the staff were friendly. The pool and patio were great! It looked like the kind of place that film execs would have hung out at in the 60s, and it turns out that was part of the history of this hotel.
We got a good price and quite enjoyed ourselves.
