We booked using Hotels.com and got a $90 rate so very good for a weekday. The rooms were clean except we had to move because of wet carpets as they had been shampoo'ed that day. There were a number of contractors using the hotel and voices could be heard and doors slamming. Otherwise a nice night, comfortable bed and free internet access all proved to be good value.

Room Tip: Rooms to rear of property are quieter, plenty of parking near your room. Only 2 floors but no elevat...

Others may argue that the prices are actually good because of the expensive wine-country location, but $175 seemed like a lot for a basic room in a basic hotel. On the plus side, everything was clean and comfortable and the included breakfast had a lot of good options. Reception staff were very nice.
On the con side, noise traveled through the doors and windows, the fan (which we needed because the room was stuffy) was very loud (although it also drowned out some of the shouting, presumably from people who'd been enjoying their wine tastings a bit too much, so maybe that was actually a plus), and there was a caulking gun sitting on the counter when we walked in--although maybe that was another complimentary gift like the water bottles. And you would never know you're in wine country. All you know is that you're in K-mart and drive through Starbucks country. There's a fairly nice courtyard where the pool is, but you can't see it from your room and there are no chairs on the balconies.
$175 may not be a lot to some people, but I feel like we've had better values. In fact, I'm pretty sure we paid less at the other Best Western in Santa Rosa, the Garden one, where the rooms looked out on the aforementioned garden, which was lovely, and was much closer to Santa Rosa's historic district. It's true breakfast wasn't included in that price, but I don't think we paid much for the little breakfast we had at the little cafe. I'd choose the Garden BW over the Wine Country BW on a future trip.

Pros:
*location is right off 101 and is convenient
*big rooms...we had a king jacuzzi suite. The jacuzzi was nice, but two of the jets sprayed water straight up and all over the bathroom and made it hard to enjoy the tub.
*overall quiet (see below comment)

Cons:
*every morning around 7am, we could hear heavy doors slamming. I'm not sure if it was neighbors or housekeeping, but it woke me up each day. Literally, shook the room.
*unfriendly front desk. I encountered 4 different people and not one of them ever smiled or asked how our stay or room was, which is basic hotel customer service.
*no food choices other than fast food or diners. We did find a Whole Foods about a mile away and picked up some healthier options there.

Overall, it was a mediocre stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus Wine Country. Conveniently located in Santa Rosa, at a 101 exit. We were greeted with fresh cookies at the reception, which made the kids very happy!
The hotel was modern, the rooms (we got 2 suites) were huge, clean and very quiet! The beds very comfortable. The Jacuzzi in the room was a nice addition. Our kids really enjoyed the breakfast, buffet style, with fresh pastries.
Overall a great relaxing stay, close to the russian river (30mn away from Guernsville) and close to the wineries.

Room Tip: The suite was only a $20 extra and that was perfect for 2 adults/2 kids.

The motel is located right off of Highway 101 just north of Santa Rosa. I choose it as one of my stopovers as I was touring the Sonoma wine country area. I will first list the good points of the place, rates were reasonable compared to others in the area, the location was convenient as noted above, the rooms were clean, beds comfortable, they also had the bath area divided from the sleeping area with a dividing wall which was nice, and the staff was helpful.

Now the areas that I found to be lacking, which is more related to personal taste than a negative for the motel. The rooms are entered from outside or at least that was the case for the room I stayed in which was located at the back of the motel. There is only a cement parking lot in the back. The room did open up to a small courtyard but there really wasn't much there. There is some landscaping in the front of the hotel but not much. So, if you are looking for something that has a lot of landscaping or one that reminds you that you are in wine country this may not be what your looking for, but if your looking for a motel that is affordable, comfortable, and convenient to the highway, than this could be a fit.

One other note is that there is not much around the hotel to do, of which I can not fault the hotel. There is an Applebee's across the street but you will need to go further down the road to find some other eating establishments.

I would like to thank TNTRAVELER10 for their kind words about our guest rooms and staff. I'm delighted they found our rates reasonable, our hotel clean, convenient, comfortable, and our staff helpful. I don't think we lack atmosphere, and we do have to provide a place for our guests to park, so due to space limitations, we are limited as far as landscaping. But as mentioned in the review, we all have our personal taste, and I respect theirs.
Again, I'm glad you found our hotel affordable, comfortable and convenient, and we look forward to having you back to stay with us soon.

I attended the Wine Country Ukulele Festival with a friend on Sept. 10-11, 2011 and stayed here on Saturday night. Front desk personnel friendly and professional. Our room had two queens and was spacious and nicely arranged. Wi-Fi in room, bottled water in fridge and Andes mints - all free. Nice breakfast buffet, too.
