Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country
Ranked #6 of 25 Hotels in Santa Rosa

This is definitely a hotel where you will want to either stay at the hotel for most of the time for a nice get away or sight see outside of Santa Rosa and then come back at night. The city itself is very depressed, so there aren't a lot of options right in Santa Rosa for great restaurants, et cetera, BUT the hotel staff is very helpful for suggestions not only for nearby if you have to stay there AND for things to do in the area. Lots of wineries and a cool Safari. All within easy driving distance.

I actually liked the hotel. It's probably the nicest one in the area from what I can tell, but I haven't been to all of them, so don't quote me on that. The hot tub and pool and the courtyard with the fire pit are very nice for relaxing, with or without a nice bottle of wine. Not to mention the nice spa. It is cheaper than some of the other locations in wine country, but if you don't mind driving a little bit to get to some of the wineries and other sights, then I would definitely recommend staying here.

And if you're a runner or like to bike, there is a decent path that you can pick up behind the hotel (right behind the hot tub area) and the town seems safe enough during the morning when I would run.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, don't get a room that looks onto the courtyard area. I go to bed early, but y...

Stayed here for two nights while attending the GCSA Conference (also at hotel). Upgraded to a "suite". The room was large, but not a "suite" (just an extra large room - room 321). Room was actually too large (not a good use of the extra space). Bathroom was large too (again, not a good use of the space). Bathroom had two sinks, jacuzzi tub and and stal shower. Suite furnishsing were nice and comfortable although the bed was a little firm for my taste. Considering all the extra space the room had, I was shocked at how small the closet was (smaller than any closet I have seen in any room type), plus is was right in front of the door. Room has a desk for working and a living "area" that had a small couch, two chairs and coffee table. Room overlooked the courtyard (although view was from interior corner).

Conference provided breakfast by hotel. Breakfast was good. Afternoon breaks included cookies and sodas. Cookies were awesome. Not sure if made on site or brought in from a bakery, but very good.

Hotel is sitiuated on the river which has a great walking/running/biking trail. I took the opportunity to go for a few 5 miles runs (trail is much longer). Only issue to note is the homeless population. It did not bother me, but just a warning for those who may be concerned.

Nice pool, but did not use (weather, plus it was not heated for some reason).

Security is tight - cant go through many doors wihtout using room key (I guess it's a good thing).

Room Tip: Dont stay in third floor (elevator very slow). Suite upgrade "not worth it".

Attentive staff, clean rooms, small fitness center, even a wine tasting on Saturday early evening (I won a bottle) Business meeting rooms were fine and attention to us during our business time was just right. Bar was pleasant, meals decent in the restaurant, so all in all, a good stay.

Room Tip: Most rooms face onto courtyards or the front or back of building. Courtyards are nice.

Met or exceeded Hyatt quality standards. Professional service from friendly staff. Very informative about local attractions and places to dine. Generously sized room, very quiet climate control. Complete stock of bathroom amenities (including toothpaste). Very easy to located and within walking distance to many if not most, Santa Rosa shops and restaurants. Near the freeway but, noise was never noticed. Loud early rising and late arriving guests were annoying, (but that's everywhere). The two cons were 1. a bit pricey; by the time they tag on occupancy tax and other nickels and dimes the check out bill was a bit of an unanticipated surprise. And lastly the in-room coffee is atrocious. Don't do it, no matter how desperate you are, wait for coffee at the restaurant or nearby breakfast place. Overall a good upscale property and a good experience.

Room Tip: Courtyard view rooms were very quiet.

I went in expecting more, being an experienced Hyatt traveler. Downsides first - no one mentioned my room was next to a smoking section ( I will always ask about this now), which was ghastly in the hallway. I was on the 3rd floor.
Restaurant menu was good, reflecting local ingredients and food trends. Service was slow (they were not ready for an influx of conference goers due to rain).

Walls thin, heard a couple of conversations that I would rather not have (and if those speaking were aware their voices could be heard with such clarity they would have been quieter.)

Pluses include friendly, accommodating staff everywhere on site. Special shout outs to Hector and Heather. The beds were really comfortable. Location right by historic railroad district - great restaurant choices and bars/wine tasting.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask about room proximity to smoking rooms (third floor).

We took one look and just kept driving. My own fault for not checking the Expedia fine print, I searched for a hotel in Sonoma and mistakenly assumed this to be in the area I wanted. The photos online look amazing and it talks about walking to the shops, restaurants etc. In reality it is sandwiched between the highway and a busy intersection about 20 miles from Sonoma. We pulled into the car park, looked around and drove off straight away. Can't comment on the hotel, but the location is appalling if you are hoping for something near the vineyards as we were.

My daughter and I went to visit Sonoma State University and I took this opportunity to visit downtown Santa Rosa.

The reins were super clean. They even had a iHome so that we can enjoy our own music and charge our phone!

I get why they put poor coffee in the rooms. The bar at the lobby had a super friendly barista. And a small espresso menu and a few basic breakfast items. Perfect to walk back to my sleeping daughter.

During our short stay, we visited the onsite Spa and had Tex Wasabi for dinner. Check out those reviews!
