“Excellent dinner”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

The roasted beet salad is a must. The ahi tuna and sea bass were excellent. The view out to the vineyard is very pretty in the evening.

“Lovely, upscale, and convenient”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

I've been to John Ashe twice. Both times for special occasions with large groups (rehearsal dinner, conference), so I've never ordered off of the menu. But what I've had has been delicious and the setting is perfectly lovely. This visit, we had a drink in the room near the bar. The waitress knew her wines, and hors' d'oevres looked great (but we didn't indulge since we didn't want to ruin our appetites). The prices are high, but the food and atmosphere is worth it. And...it is right off of the highway 101 (River Road exit, I think), so it's really easy to reach.

“Good atmosphere great food”
Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

We sat in their conservatory section which was nice and bright before sun down and then after was well lit with some good heaters.
Service was fantastic, we never felt rushed nor were we waiting.
Starters were a good size as were the mains. Top quality food and where they can they were using local ingredients, some from the grounds of their property.
Their wine list was extensive and the bottle we ordered was recommended by our waitress and was excellent.
It is defiantly a "smarter" restaurant so if you are going wear a shirt and pants, no shorts and tees.
Great place and worth a visit.

“Expensive and Excellent”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We ate dinner on the enclosed terrace. The view of the gardens and vineyards was lovely. The food was excellent. My husband had the brick chicken and I had the orzo-stuffed tomatoes. We shared an heirloom beet salad that was wonderful. Since we had already spent several days tasting wines we chose cocktails. These were hand-made and fresh - very good. While we did not have dessert a couple tables around us did and we overheard that they were delicious. This is a special occasion place, but they do have a reasonably priced happy hour with nice options most days of the week.

“Wine Country Organic Elegance”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

For my first dinner in Sonoma County we dined at John Ash. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a semi Craftsman style with tables inside and out. The restaurant strives for low key elegance. The service was friendly, professional and unobtrusive for our business dinner. I started with a squab and pheasant terrine accompanied with pickled red currants and toasted brioche which was a slab of fatty heaven!!!!! My next course was a slow cooked lamb shank with creamy polenta, baby turnips and a pinot noir sauce which was perfection and melted in your mouth. The corn muffins with cheese and jalapeños are warm and wonderful. The wine list was excellent in every way and all wines were served in Riedel glasses. We had a Merry Edwards Pinot Noir which was amazing. The prices are a bit steep but fine dining such as this is not common even in Sonoma County!!!!
