The winery has started serving private dinners and we took advantage of this opportunity. We were a travelling party of 10 (annual family vacation) and my wife worked with the chef to set up a 7 course tasting menu paired with wines.

We started by milling around the beautiful grounds and nibbling away at a cheese platter as we started our sipping with a nice Saint Francis Chardonnay. We had the dining room all to ourselves and we enjoyed that a great deal. As the evening went on there was uninhibited laughter, a bit of loudness and even some dancing to the Motown that came over the sound system (we cranked it).

The food was bliss. Each course was artfully prepared and displayed and it was delicious! I'll post a photo of our menu - I don't know what to highlight it was all so good. (I think if forced, I admit the chicken was my favorite.) Each course was paired with an excellent Saint Francis wine.

The service was delightful and the chef came out to take a bow and bathe in our accolades.

This was not a cheap night out, but all things considered, it was quite reasonable. We'll do it again when we return to wine country.

A good friend suggested we do the wine and food pairing as it was their favorite in California. There were 6 other couples at our meal who were all return customers who said they keep coming back because it is the best in the region. I don't know what was better, the food, the wines, or the magnificent views. The food was spectacular, very creative combination of flavors and just the right size of portions so you weren't overly full. You have two servers who explain the wine and food in exquisite detail. Towards the end the chef came out to also answer questions and discuss why she chose the particular wines to pair with the food. In one word the experience was magical. Don't even hesitate about doing this, it's the only way to do a wine tasting!

A very scenic location in Santa Rosa with a friendly staff and excellent chef. We went for the wine and food pairing after reading the reviews on yelp. The 2 hr drive to get there was well worth it. The staff was very knowledgeable about their offerings and the selection of wines and food excellent. The wine and food pairing typically offers six wines paired with salad, fish /(sea bass), seared schezuan pork shoulder and a delicious dessert. The dining room is located so as to provide an excellent view of the vineyard and the mountains around it. Definitely worth a visit.

Whether you are visiting Sonoma for the first time or have gone for years, you have to check out St. Francis. I've been vacationing in Sonoma and Napa since I was a kid but St. Francis truly stands out due to their wonderful customer service and picture perfect grounds. What a view! If you have been to Mumm and think their view is great, wait until you see this. The wine is pretty good but that is not hard to find in Sonoma - genuinely friendly service is a litle harder to come by. Become a wine club member and they will take FANTASTIC care of you.

The St. Francis winery is named after St. Francis of Assisi in recognition of his love of animals and nature. Appropriate for the wine region which is dotted with small farms and vineyards. There is a charming statue of St. Francis in the front gardens for photo ops. The tasting room is located in the mission-style building with a large bell tower. Huge windows let in the light and the view of surrounding foothills, vineyards and lovely landscaping in the backyard garden area. You can sit out on the back deck on warm days and enjoy the view. Tasting room staff are friendly and knowledgeable. You can find a line of the wines distributed through retailers but the wines available at the winery are definitely higher quality. If you liked the bottle of St. Francis chardonnay from your local grocery, you'll love the reserve Behler version at the winery. Lots of oak, creamy and lush. An old-style chardonnay that few wineries make in this price range today. Excellent Zins as well. Small plates paired with the wines are available. Casual and fun.
