“On the Beach!”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

Casa Del Mar is a gorgeous hotel and spa right on the beach in Santa Monica. Everything is perfect with this place. The lobby is huge with many places to relax, have a drink or eat. There is live music most nights in the lobby. The huge picture windows remind you that you are at the ocean. The food is fantastic, although expensive, as are the drinks. They do have Happy Hour daily, which helps. The staff service is amazing and they all know your name.
The rooms are above and beyond beautiful and have everything you could possibly need for your stay. If it isn't in your room, just ask and they will get it for you. Our room was decorated in ocean blues with a whiite, fluffy bed. We had an ocean view king, it was spectacular! I will stay there again soon.

Room Tip: Go for the Ocean view rooms! After all, isn't that why you are there?

Stayed here for 2 nights on our west coast trip. Te hotel itself is gorgeous and right on the beach. The rooms were spacious and the bed was comfy, if scarily high. Breakfast was good, but the one evening we ate in the restaurant the food was not so good. It is expensive and given that for a short stay you would be out mos of the time, there may be better value elsewhere. Special mentions to riding down to Venice beach in the morning, a restaurant in town called real fresh food (I think) it is a vegan cafe with world class food and a hemp milkshake that was delicious, also t franks italian, just up on main street from the casa, great food and service

Room Tip: Try for a sea view

The problem with this hotel is the lack of quality service. The valet is excruciatingly slow (a cardinal sin considering it's a non-negotiable $34/night to park your car at the hotel). The concierge was playing solitaire on his iPad every time we walked up to ask him a question. Wifi is about $12 a day, but it was slow and was out for an entire day while I was staying there--which would have been ok, except the front desk denied it at first and I had to walk down and prove it to them! I would not expect that kind of service from a mid-range hotel, let alone one as expensive as this.

Even the room was a disappointment--there was a loud banging coming from the roof all night, and the front desk seemed unable to address this problem.

Also, there are few options for breakfast in the area, the hotel's breakfast was slow and costly, and few restaurants are within walking distance. I would advise staying at either a comparable hotel with better service, or staying at a mid-range hotel.

a beautiful hotel by the santa monica beach. you can walk to the pier or along the board walk. i wouldn't say the pier is a stone's throw away, but you could walk there and see it from the hotel. this is a great place to stay if you want to be close to the ocean as you don't have to cross any streets to hit the sand.

the hotel itself is gorgeous. there's a bar by the lobby where you can take your drinks to any chair or sit by the windows. there's a pool as well if you don't feel like the cold ocean. the rooms are rather small, but looks great. it's definitely one of the more expensive hotels, in santa monica but it's worth it. great wedding venue

Loved this hotel. Amazing location, old world charm and amazing service. Only thing that could be better was gym. No view at all and little to no attention paid to the equipment.

My sister and I recently spent a relaxing Sat night here and not only was the room luxurious, but the details were so thoughtful and anything we needed ( a pair od scissors for my sister's bead making) was promptly delivered by the front desk.

WE had some problems accessing on-demand movies so the hotel immediately comped our breakfast. This is a very classy hotel with an amazing lobby for drinks and jazz and an ocean view. We also had an ocean view from our room.

The hotel is very close to Santa Monica's popular Main Street. So after we arrived we strolled down Main Street doing some light shopping until we found the restaurant that "called" to us.

Room Tip: an ocean view is very nice

I will start with the positives on this hotel because there are many. Beach view is incredible, santa Monica pier is a stones throw away, workout room is great, great restaurants within walking distance, famous people tend to stay here, and the lobby is elegant.
Now the negatives......well negative, the room size is as small as a cruise ship but way comfier. You are paying high end prices for the all of the above so you would expect a larger room. It is hard to have two people let alone one in the room.
That is my only complaint. The staff is great and courteous. The pool is fantastic. I highly suggest taking a stroll on the beach during sunset.

Hi Timmy,

Thank you for your recent visit to Casa del Mar and for your kind comments. Our property has a storied past and was even an elite beach club in the 1920s. The architecture and layout remain very similar to the building’s original construction. I am sorry that you found your room snug. Again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Sincerely,
James Barela
