“didn't love it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2006

We recently stayed 4 nights at the hotel. While our room had a lovely side view of the pier, we were unable to sleep. The doors banged loudly at all hours of the night shaking the thin walls. Security was up and down the halls afetr 11:00 pm just talking loudly on walkie talkie about nothing in particular. I had to ask them to be quiet. Room service banged loudly on nearby rooms at midnight to deliver. The housekeeping staff had loud discussions outside our door every afternoon. The walls were so thin we could hear the unhappy baby in the next room crying well after midnight and for hours in the morning starting at 5:45 a.m.
It seems as if there is no management present, or if there is, no staff training has been implemented. We might as well have been at a motel.
The bed and linens are nice. The housekeeping is good. I had to call for hot water on 4 different occasions as they do turn the hot water down after a certain hour, probably to conserve energy. I don't mind calling once. I don't want to call multiple times.
I expressed my concerns to the desk staff, but they seemed unconcerned. Marriott reservations says this is a level 7 hotel. I have no idea what that means.
We asked to be moved , but were told there were no other rooms available. We paid over 300.00 dollars per night plus 30 dollars parking per day. The next time we want a break we will pay 200.00 dollars more per night and go to Casa del Mar or Shutters.

The Le Merigot is a good hotel. However I found the "Beach Hotel" part of the name to be quite a bit misleading. The hotel is not on the beach! It is just one block away - but still not a "Beach Hotel". Most rooms - and looking at the floor plan I really mean almost all of them do not face the beach and the ocean. Even if they do there is another building blocking the view. That said I found the rooms to be very large, spottlessly maintained with great ameneties and of really high quality. So are the restaurant and bar. The service pays attention and is quite personal. Disappointing was the rather small pool deck, which is more in an inner courtyard setting. Overall a very good hotel in a good Santa Monica location close to the beach but not a resort like "Beach Hotel".

Stayed here in April. Excellent servie again, lovely quiet rooms, fantastic amenities.

Location is v good, easy to get around. Metered parking is available to avoid the high overnight parking charges.

My wife and I thoroughly recommend the Hotel, and would stay here again on our next o/s trip.

Upon entering the hotel which is in a great area, you are welcomed by a great staff. The hotel is very pretty and the lay out is easy. It feels like a regular marriott with a convention going on and the meeting rooms right off the lobby so there was not a feeling of being removed from that. The rooms were nice but being that ours was next to the linen closet; the doors were being slammed all hours of the night and the morning. The spa was nice as well, but the elevators from the main part of the hotel let everyone off at the spa so the foot traffic as well as the noise level was loud. At the only restaurant on the property, the breakfast was a la carte (expensive) and not included in the $300 rate of the room which I found odd. The best bet is to go to 3rd street and eat there for lunch. All in all...a nice hotel, but with Shutters and the Vice Roy around the corner, I would not pick the Marriott as a 1st choice.

For business trips there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this hotel. Location is great, rooms are OK (though nothing to write home about), staff are friendly and happy to help. However, this is not a luxury hotel and certainly not 5-star hotel. If you are paying out of your own pocket and want to stay in a top-notch place, you should stay somewhere else.

Had a great 3-generation family vacation at Le Merigot. Santa Monica is expensive--so I think this was an excellent value when compared to nearby hotels.
Rooms were spotless and comfortable, as would be expected with a quality hotel.
The location is ideal. We crossed a small alley-type street to get to the very wide beach. The staff was friendly and helpful. The manager saw us in the lobby with the little grandkids and gave them toys to take to the beach. We were able to walk to some excellent restaurants recommended by the conciege (Ivy at the Shore, Wolfgang Puck's Chinois on Main) We took a nice long walk for a delicious breakfast at the Omelette parlor.
Would definitely stay here again.

I would agree that this hotel is no architectural wonder. It is pretty average looking. But everything else about our six day visit was extraordinary. I almost hate to mention it because I'm afraid I won't be able to book it on my next visit to LA. The bed was great, as were the linens. The personal service was attentive, friendly and always evident. Food was excellent, rooms very clean. Concierge was very helpful, although during the Christmas week it was evident that they were doing some staff shuffling and lacked a bit of personal experience with some of the recommendations. I WILL go back again.
