My husband brought me to the resort to celebrate my 50th birthday. Peter was wonderful, and was able to accommodate my husbands request for an upgraded room. I especially enjoyed the balcony with an ocean view along with the champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The staff at the resort was friendly but with the exception of Peter and excellent bell staff, I didn't feel like anyone went out of their way to serve guests. As an example I had to ask the server at the pool to take away the dirty dishes that someone else left. The housekeeping staff had neglected to clean out the drawers and when we started to unpack and use the drawers there was hair in them as well as on the patio. We called housekeeping and ask them to come take care of this, it wasn't until we stopped at the front desk on the way to dinner and made a second request, did this get taken care off. Over all I feel the staff could use some additional training to bring the service level up to JW Marriott standards.

The rooms could use some attention too. The lock on the bathroom door was broken, the door handle on the main door wasn't working properly and there was paint peeling off the bathroom walls. In some spots the paint had been poorly repaired. This can not meet JW Marriott resort standards. Its a shame with such a great property, they are missing the mark.

Room tip: request an ocean view room with balcony

Seven of us came here for a family function, and booked three rooms, with different periods of stay for each room.

As soon as we exited from our car, we were greeted by some extremely friendly Valet Guys. Upon entering, we noticed that the Lobby was nice with some cool sitting areas, a coffee station, a Bar with outdoor seating, and a Concierge Desk. The décor was good, with pretty potted plants and large animal statues scattered around.

The positives are that this place was less than five minutes from the Pier, and no more than ten minutes from the trendy Restaurants, and the Third Street Promenade.

For an expensive Hotel stay, our 4 day visit was disappointing. As the days progressed, we noticed that they had our rooms and breakfast coupons mixed up. We were checked out, with a bill for the other room slipped under our door-- a day earlier than scheduled. The earlier check out rooms had extra breakfast coupons. One day, we returned to our room at 4 PM and saw that it had not been cleaned. Calls to the front desk netted quick results, but this should not have occurred in the first place. We were all family, so it was OK. Imagine if we were strangers, and this happened.

The Breakfast service is extremely slow. No one smiles there, other than the initial greeter. We had to wait 20 or more minutes every day, before someone came to ask us if we would like some coffee, water or juice.

We were certainly expecting more at a JW Marriott. Unfortunately, not a single employee stood out as a standard for a place of this caliber (other than the pleasant Valet Parking guys).

Sorry, but we will not be staying here in October, or in December, even with points, when we return for our family functions.

Stayed there 4 days for a business trip. Nice hotel, walking distance from 3rd street promenade and the beach. Close to the 10 freeway. I only stay here for business as the rooms are expensive and do not offer the plus that I like to get when travelling with my family ( No kitchenette)

Room tip: Choose room toward pool. OCean avenue gets busy

We stayed 2 nights and loved the location and service. Unfortunately the whether wasn't brilliant therefore we haven't experienced the outside pool. Room service was excellent and our double room was clean, with a beautiful view.

Room tip: Ask for higher floors to enjoy the view

There is no street parking, but you can self park which is much cheaper then valet. Front desk staff knowledgeable for things to do, see, and eat in the area. Dining service including bar (light food bar menu -expensive) closes at 10 pm which is early. Less then 5 minutes for famous Santa Monica pier, boardwalk and ocean. Very close to several restaurants and stores. Room very clean, spacious, and the complimentary coffee in the lobby an added plus!
