“A boutique feel from a JW Marriott”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

Other than the guest rooms, Le Merigot feels more like a small, independent hotel than a JW Marriott, and that is meant in a positive way. While other JWs are more imposing and lavish, this fits its upscale/beach location very well. It is located on Ocean Avenue, just a block from the Strand and the beach (many rooms have views, and some have balconies) and a short walk from the Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade. Although I was here for work in Beverly Hills, I chose to stay here near the beach, and getting to/from the highway is quite easy (always important in LA). When you first arrive, it's easy to miss from the street, as the entry is nicely landscaped and there is only a small, street-level sign. Once inside, the bar and restaurant are both excellent (the she-crab soup is made in an authentic, Charleston-like style), although there are also plenty of restaurants a short walk away. The lobby is small and comfortable, but without all the over-the-top efforts to impress you that you might find in a larger resort. And the staff is exceptionally friendly - as many others have noted - and helpful. The layout of the hotel makes it feel smaller than it probably is, with multiple hallways and wings surrounding an interior patio. The guest rooms do have more of a corporate, Marriott feel than that of a Ritz or a boutique, but at the JW level this is still quite comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the ocean are best.

We stayed at this hotel while in Santa Monica and very much enjoyed our stay. This hotel is in a great location, a block from the beach and very near the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica. We loved the location and the smaller, boutique style hotel. This hotel, however, does not really seem like a JW to me. The facility seems sort of old and in need of updating and the rooms are small and very average. JW's are usually large, grand hotels on par with Ritz even sometimes. Hard for me to believe this hotel is a JW and the Marco Island Marriott in Florida is not, as that is a much nicer resort, in my opinion. This hotel seems more like a very nice regular Marriott in a great location! I will say that what really made our stay and would likely result in us returning to this hotel is the excellent staff. Everyone we encountered was top notch, extremely nice and always willing to go out of their way to help us. That really made this a wonderful hotel stay for us! Overall, we really liked this hotel and would recommend it to anyone staying in Santa Monica.

The hotel is in walking distance to the pier, shopping, restaurants, beaches. Drives to Beverly Hills, Hollywood and other attractions were easy by LA standards. A terrific location!
The staff was great, friendly and helpful, always welcoming at every level. Lovely terraces to relax outdoors.
The room & bathroom were spacious, up to date, clean & comfortable. The only thing the room lacked was drawer space. We are a family who packed a lot of changes of clothes for our 6 day stay and it would have been nice to live out of drawers. On the bright side it made packing for home easier. We'd definitely stay here again.

I recently had the opportunity to stay the night here for a business trip. We arrived late in the evening and the staff greeted us with a smile. After a long day of traveling, it was nice to be welcomed by kind people at the front desk. Because we were only staying one night, my room had been upgraded to a suite with a balcony and a view, which added a nice touch to the evening. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, and had a chance to wake up to the ocean outside my window.

Definitely not a JW category, well except for the price. The room is dark, old furniture, and looks it needed to be remodeled 5 years ago. The Bathroom is from the 80's and has not been changed except for the horrible round shower curtain. The staff is friendly and professional. The pool is depressing and the spa looks abandoned, old and creepy. For the prices they charge, you better choose another hotel in Santa Monica, unless you want to pay extra for your reward points.

We are about to finished our renovation project in our guestrooms and are excited to showcase them. We also are upgrading the pool area in the upcoming months and look forward to welcoming you again.

We spent a night here, generally on the way to LAX--and it was great!

Great service--many employees in the lobby waiting and willing to help with anything--the concierge showed us the way to the exit to the beach, walking with us down 1.5 flights of stairs and outside onto the pool deck to make sure we found our way. Apropos beach access--the Strand (the path that runs along the beach for 20+ miles) and the beach is just across the street from the hotel (although it is down a number of flights of stairs to get to the street level at the back (west) side of the hotel). We went for an early morning run, and it was great! Although finding the entry door from the outside was a bit more challenging...

Very comfortable bed in a clean and pretty modern room. Looks like room and parts of bathroom have been remodeled recently.

Valet parking w/ in-out privileges was a nice touch.

Walking distance from Main St., 3rd St. Promenade, Pier, beach / Strand. Great location.

Only downer was that our room had a view of the building next to us (and a pretty close one at that.) Had to keep the curtains closed for a bit of privacy.

Our room was gorgeous! It was also spacious with a patio and it overlooked the beach and pier. The staff was exceptional! It is very centrally located to the beach, pier and great restaurants are a 5 min walk away. Will definitely return.
