The hotel is pretty and the customer service quite good, and it is a good location in Santa Monica near the promenade. However, the rooms facing the street are extremely loud. The hotel bar next door is apparently really popular and we were literally kept awake until 4:00 in the morning by drunk people leaving the night club. And then we were awakened around 6:00 am by trucks in the street! This is no fault of the Fairmont, but be aware of your room choice; be sure to get an inner-facing room. Also, double check your room when you leave. I was so tired when we left I forgot to check the closet. Two shirts were stolen. They were eventually replaced by the hotel, but only after calling them multiple times. In general, a disappointing and exhausting stay!

Room Tip: Don't book a room facing the street on a weekend night.

I just returned from a few days at the Fairmont in Santa Monica. I had heard that the hotel was in need of renovations but the room I was in was just great. Paid for standard room but was put in room on top floor with full ocean view.

Breakfast at Fig was very good but really expensive. 2nd day concierge recommended Jinx which is just down 2nd street and is recommended.

Overall staff was super friendly and location is really good.

I'd definitely stay there again.

Driving down Wilshire boulevard we begin to feel the breeze from the ocean and see Santa Monica beach and as soon as we enter the hotel driveway and see the beautiful tree in front of the hotel entrance we’re home.. or so it feels.

We’ve been to Santa Monica 4 years out of the last 5 and always stayed at the Fairmont as it has never disappointed us and out of the many hotels we’ve stayed in, this one truly makes us feel at home.

The staff is extremely friendly and courteous, without it ever feeling forced and they always have a friendly word for you and if you need extra towels, water or other necessities for your room housekeeping is always ready to assist and keep the rooms impeccably clean.

The Valet service is fast and efficient and usually it only takes a minute or two to get your car.

The Rooms

The rooms while not as large as in many other hotels are so meticulously decorated that they feel just right and you can’t help from feel at home. We’ve always stayed in the Ocean View rooms and the furniture and the view give just the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.

Waking up in the big and comfy bed after a night of relaxing sleep and look out at Santa Monica beach from the balcony while enjoying a complimentary cup of Nespresso coffee guarantees a great beginning of the day.

If it takes longer to write your email while in the room it is not because of the speed of the complimentary internet, but simply because the table is situated so that one can look out over the beach and Santa Monica pier while writing (or trying to).

The walls are thins and occasionally it can be possibly hear the guests in the neighboring room, but it has never been a problem for us at all and and I only write it because it seem to be a topic that many mentions in other reviews. This is not a hotel where the guests throw wild parties in their rooms and but if it bothers you to perhaps overhear if the guest next door should sneeze loud, then you should maybe stay somewhere else.

The bathroom is not large, but it has the amenities needed and is very tastefully decorated with all the amenities one would need.

Spa & Restaurant

The Spa which my mother has used numerous times is well worth the money and she, who has a back back, has been totally invigorated after each visit.

The Fig restaurant is modern and if you want big meals for cheap money, this is not for you, but if you want to try something different and exquisite you should tie it a try at least once. Breakfast in the hotel, also at the Fig, is not cheap, but very tasty. and you can always go to one of the restaurants at the nearby Third Street promenade.

Location & Shopping

If you read the above you cannot help be aware that the hotel is located very close to Santa Monica beach.

The hotel is also within walking distance from the famous 3rd Street promenade where you will find numerous shops and restaurants and which is a great plea for a relaxing stroll. On wednesday and saturday you will also find the farmers market here.
At the end of 3rd Street Promenade you find the Santa Monica Place with a lot of luxury stores and a food market.

Sight Seeing busses depart just outside the hotel and if you want a private tour the Concierge at the hotel can always arrange something for you.

The hotel is close to 405 and Highway 1 and getting to the airport (LAX) is only a 20 minute drive.

Just back from our 4th stay at the Fairmont in Santa Monica. Yet again, we loved every minute there. Got a quiet room on the other side of the hotel from the tower which overlooked the nightclub, which was much better. Used the gym and pool every day, loved breakfast in Fig, loved using the town car to go to local destinations, loved the amazingly helpful concierge staff (nothing was too much trouble, so efficient and friendly), loved having a glass of wine in the lobby bar after a day's sightseeing or shopping. The location is perfect. We wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting LA.

Room Tip: we enjoyed a quieter visit this time by requesting a room on the side of the hotel away from the Bungalow nightclub.

Everything about this hotel just ticked all the boxes but no more so than the people that work there. I was only there for two nights staying in a room with separate living area and bedroom which just begged for a longer stay. Very comfortable beds and ample room for work or just relaxing. Did not use the pool area but it looked inviting for a sunbathe and the gym has a good outward looking position and all that you would need. The Fig restaurant serves up the best food whether breakfast , lunch or dinner. Perfectly located only about 30/40 minutes from LA airport, you are also just a five minute walk from the main shopping area and the ocean front. We used the bicycles from the hotel and took a ride down past the Santa Monica Pier to Venice Beach. Great fun for a Sunday morning. The Bungalow Bar at the front of the hotel is quite an iconic meeting place which seems to the The Place to go on a Friday and Saturday night. Looking forward to going back
