“If this is the future of locavore, heaven help the middle class”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2009

The bottom line is that it's overpriced. Wine selection was terrific, but the best I can say about the food is that it was OK overall. We had little raviolis that were excellent, but they were very small and there were only 5 of them. The rest of the meal was forgettable. My wife can make pork chops as good as she ordered, and my fish (sea bass) was kind of tough. The restaurant seems to pride itself on preparing local ingredients. In my view this is meaningless in this context. Local food should save resources--transportation and labor costs--so why is it such poor value here? A second gripe is the condescending attitude with which we were treated. I made a reservation, and we were the only customers when we got there. Even so, they would not give us a booth, because they were reserved for some undisclosed reason. They were empty when arrived, and empty when we left, having been free the whole time.

“Nothing rustic about the food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2009

Started with the Tuscan Bread soup, tasty, but nothing special. Golden Beet salad was really yummy. Polenta with Mushrooms and a Fried Egg was melt in the mouth goodness. I'd go back just for this dish alone and we don't live anywhere close by.
Then it was the Burger, one of the best burgers in LA. Condiments great, fries were good too, nice garlicky Aoli.
Dessert was Creme Fraiche Ice Cream and the Apple Crumble. Both delicious. The apple still had the skin on so gave it extra taste and texture. Unfortunately our 1st and 2nd dessert choices of Chocolate Pear Tart and Cassis Ice Cream were unavailable, which is odd as we arrived at 6.15pm for dinner. The staff would have had a lot of explaining to customers that night regarding the scarcity of desserts! However they did apologise and comped our coffees which was a nice touch. Wines by the glass too. Interesting choice of music but it wasn't loud so you could easily hold a conversation. It did get a little dark away from the window, you needed the candle to read the menu!
The restaurant has expensive valet parking or you can find a park in the surrounding streets. Modern decor and big airy windows make it feel welcoming. Staff very attentive.
I'll be back again....I can't stop thinking about the Polenta.

Consistently great food. Go there for haute cuisine, or for a really good burger. Great list of wines by the glass.

Excellent food. Met some girlfriends for dinner, we ate in the bar. I started with the Mixed Butter Lettuce Salad, big chunks of avocado and big leafy lettuce. Dressing was a little heavy, but nicely flavored. My girlfriend had the Fig & Endive salad which was YUMMY. We split the Cast Iron Burger which was perfect, and the fries are great. Hot and salty. Dessert was the Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts, and while the chocolate didn't have much flavor, the doughnuts were pretty good just by themselves. They came out hot and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The cocktails looked good (prosecco cocktails, I'm not sure they have a full bar license) although neither of us felt like drinking. It's a little noisy - the space is nice but there isn't a lot to absorb the sound, but otherwise it's a nice place to eat.

“Modern with a twist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2008

A modern young restaurant with very friendly staff and a chef who prepares food thinking out side the box.
If you like good food and wine in a modern environment you will love this place. You can book tables via opentable.com.
Enjoy.
