“Best old bar scene in the City! Decent food but more of a Bar....”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

Ok - I used to come here in the 70's with my college friend John Lazar whose uncle knew lots of Hollywood stars since he owned one of the more heavily used photography shops in town specializing in movie production equipment. (We also used to eat at the Small World Restaurant across the Street - but that's another review!) -- THIS PLACE - "Chez Jay" was then, and still is now - the place where stars drop in for a drink and to smooze with the atmosphere of Stars Past like the incomparable Marilyn, James Dean, Dean Martin and Phil Silvers, Peter Lawford, names most of you are too young to remember but great stars in their days. ...So I dropped in here a while back to re-live old memories, and you know what? Those "old memories" are still here! The food is pretty okay - even better than that, the drinks are what most come for, and the Old Hollywood Atmosphere ...which can't be beat!

“So much fun!”

Total dive bar and restaurant but the owner is lovely, down to earth, and the atmosphere is so much fun. Would go back again and again!

“Go for the drinks, stay for the....well, drinks”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

Cool atmosphere, met up with some friends for dinner and drinks a few weeks back. Go for the private booth in the back if you can. Apparently, it was the table of choice for the Ratpack, Warren Beatty, Marilyn Monroe, etc, back in the day. The waiter will tell you a lot of stories, half of which are probably true.

Drinks were strong, but hard to really mess up a jack & ginger.

Food....well, let's just say it's not their strong point. But a good time was had, and I'd go back again.

“Classic dive with very good food”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

It's atmosphere first(dive-ey), clientle second, and food third. Lunch menu better than evening menu. Try the burgers!
A classic. Worth the trip.

“Gastric Bypass”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

Time has not been kind to this place. The meat is tough as rhino leather and the potatoes could double as baseballs. The space is original - and that is frightening not only in terms of looks, but also in terms of your health. Can't imagine how this dump stays open.
