Great food, we all had different dishes and everyone was great. Hostess promptly seated us, and waitress was attentive and knew her food.

We visited the Water Grill as a party of four on business in LA on the recommendation of colleagues and were blown away. As others have said it has a relaxed rather than upscale feel, being set out in open style round a central bar across a wide and cooly-lit single ground floor. But don't let that fool you into thinking that the dining experience is anything other than superb.

We were seated in a side booth - there are lovely side rooms for slightly larger parties - on a comfy dark leather settee. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, willing to offer advice and recommendations on what is an extensive menu of seafood and fish.

My fish taco starter was excellent, just big enough without spoiling my appetite for the main. Speaking of which, my Chilean sea bass was a sensation. Pan-fried and served simply with brown butter it was as good a fish dish as I've ever tasted, a view endorsed by others in my party who made the same choice. All others were hugely complimentary about their own mains and starters and we left talking of little but the food.

If you're ever in LA, make a point if visiting the Water Grill.

The Water Grill had a fun and relaxed atmosphere with an upscale bar/bistro feel.
We requested a table by the window when we made the reservation so had a nice view of the ocean.
We tried an assortment of appetizers - oysters, crab cakes, green salad - all were tasty.
I had the Sea Bass for dinner and it was good, but my daughter's Dover Sole was definitely the best entree of them all.
Our server Nicole was friendly and efficient.
The Water Grill is fairly pricey, but the seafood is good quality.
It would also be a nice place to come just for drinks and appetizers.

On a recent trip to Santa Monica we found ourselves looking for a place to eat along Ocean Ave.
Tired from a long flight and hungry for something that was better than average, we found ourselves at the Water Grill.
We were greeted promptly as we entered. We asked to view the menu and the gentleman at the door was eager to explain the vaious selections on the menu.
That was what prompted us to ask for a table.
We were seated immediately and from that point on everything was superb.
The food, drinks and service were exceptional. So much so that we went back again the two days later for dinner again.
Considering the nubmer of restaurants in the area and the fact we were only in Santa Monica for three nights, that says something.

On the first visit my wife had the Fijian Albacore Tuna Nicoise Salad, and I had Wild Pacific Swordfish.
The next visit was clams, mussells, and oysters. You can never eat too many fresh oysters.
The oysters were outstanding and our waiter took the time to explain the different varieties available.

If you do not visit this restaurant while in Santa Monica, you are going to be missing out on a real treat.

We ate in Santa Monica at the Water Grill, and our waiter, Adam, was helpful and efficient.
The food was spectacular. We started with a couple of the salads and a uni on toast, and for mains my wife had cioppino with shrimps, crab and lobster and a wonderful tomato based sauce and I had the best black cod with miso ever. Dessert was a pear financier that was the best ending to a meal we have ever had. The bread was wonderful, especially a second serving that had cheese baked into it. A wonderful experience.
