We have been living in our current home and going to Dragon Palace since 1992. Dragon Palace has become a part of our family! Two brothers (embarrassingly, I have forgotten their names...) own and run Dragon Palace and they have obviously put their entire lives into it. They greet us warmly when go to see them and they have watched our daughters grow up. Our girls run into the restaurant and give them hugs every time we go there. They even turned our 9 year old into a waitress for them one time, giving her a tray of water glasses, and then a tea service tray to serve to tables while we waited for our food!! My Daughter was thrilled and honored and the other customers really got a kick out of it. Time after time we consider other places, but we ususally wind up here for chinese food. It not just the relationship, it is the excellent, consistent food.
The restaurant is in kind of a strip mall on the southwest corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and 28th street. There is a convenience store, saltwater fish store, tool store, doughnut shop, and a couple more restaurants. Parking in the lot can be sketchy, but there is good, ample street parking as well. There is a nice big fish tank right at the front with some large, colorful Koi. The dining room is not fancy (vinyl tablecloths), but it also is non-pretentious, laid-back and comfortable.
We always start off with their terrific hot tea. Then try the hot & sour or wonton soup, both are fantastic. My wife then always orders the broccoli chicken (2 orders) and we usually add moo shoo chicken, egg rolls, chicken-fried rice (to die for) and sometimes paper-wrapped chicken. I love, love, LOVE the sweet and sour pork! They also have a mixed vegetable dish that is very good. We used to order a number of their spicier offerings, (The Kung Pao or Curry Chicken will knock your socks off!) but, alas, our older tummies do not tolerate spicy food well anymore, but you youngsters out there-order and enjoy. They do have an extensive menu, those are just our favorites:
Tell them what you like, and ask them for a recommendation. They know their food and are masters at preparing it. I'm sure they would probably make up any dish you like-if they have the ingredients...very accommodating guys.
They have an excellent lunch special and the dinner prices are very reasonable. Portion sizes are good. The four of us walk out stuffed for under 50 bucks.
This restaurant should rate much higher, but for the few in number reviews. It is not in a sexy location, like, the 3rd street promenade, but they seem to always have a steady clientele. Sometimes, I must say, it is packed. They do not deliver, but call ahead and get it to go if they are busy! Grab some chopsticks (don't forget the hot mustard for the egg rolls!) and head down to Ocean Avenue at Palisades Park just north of Santa Monica Blvd, make a right when headed back toward the ocean, there are some lovely tables at Ocean and California in the park that overlooks the pacific. Sit and eat your Dragon Palace while the ocean breeze tickles your hair and watch the joggers and their doggers run by...Go visit these guys and write them a nice review! Enjoy!
