It was our first trip to Santa Monica so we did not know where to eat. we were walking our way back to the car and we came across the place, from the minute we walked in we were made to feel like a regular. The lady who ran it was chatty and friendly, nothing was any bother we had a glass of wine and a fantastic freshly cooked meal. I had the crab cakes the were big and meaty. after travelling around the states for a few weeks and eating in Dennys and drinking pints of coffee this place was haven. If we could we would of gone back again but as we were staying in LA it was too far. Thank you for letting us enjoy you Bistro.

They have some substantial food items on their happy hour like the traditional French Mussels & Frittes along with interesting libations.

This bistro style place in downtown Santa Monica truly gives the small French restaurant experience. The waitress is fluent in French and both very knowledgeable and refreshingly opinionated about both the food (have the lambshanks, don't have the roast chicken) and the wine (choose the cotes du rhone with osso bucco, not the merlot). The food is right out of Paris - steak frites, steak tartare, bouillabase, duck confit, etc. They have a great charcuterie lunch special (cornichons and all), a dinner tasting menu, and sandwiches for the less adventurous. The crab cakes were big and meaty, two very large portions and the spinach and creme sauce delicious, both the lamb and osso bucco were terrific, and the house made ice cream wonderful. We didn't have the chocolate souffle, but our neighbors did and it looked great. The prices are very reasonable for French food and Santa Monica. This small but special place is right across the street from the old Carnegie library on Main Street. I would recommend it both for couples and parties of 4 to 6. Families with small children and business people looking for a "safe" place to bring clients might not enjoy the bistro ambiance as much. They are now open for lunch as well as dinner.
