After some of the great places we have eaten around California this probably the most disappointing . We felt it was all prepacked produce not authentic at all... Tis little sad when you can buy better in oz

My husband and I were on a vacation and just wandering around the pier area. I've been to Mariasol once before years ago and remember it to be *ok*.
Well.....it got worse.
The location is still a nice place to sit and enjoy the pier but the food is disgusting.
Ok, so the chips and salsa are fine.
My husband ordered the pescado veracruz and I ordered the camarones a la diabla. I love shrimp but could only eat about 2 of them. The sauce was oily and tasted like all they did was pour a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce over them and called it a day. My husband's fish wasn't any better, but at least his fish was cooked correctly. Too bad the flavor wasn't there and the veggies that came with it were a pile of mush.
All that and overpriced too!
So hey...go for the location, have some chips and salsa and an overpriced drink, but don't bother with the food. Do yourselves a favor and find a real Mexican restaurant away from the tourist areas.

Food was pretty good, service was fine. Overall enjoyable, including the typical strolling mariachi band.

We had just arrived in southern California, and checked in our hotel at 7PM, PST. We walked down to the Santa Monica Pier to see what it was like. As we were walking down, we talked about where we should eat, since it was already 8:30 (11:30 east coast time according to our bodies). At the end of the pier was this restaurant. It sits over the ocean. The view was breathtaking. We decided to eat outside for the view. You have to walk inside to get to the outside. The hostess was friendly, and so was the server. She asked for drink orders and recommended appetizers. The drinks came out, but they were not strong. The appetizer was ok, but we were hungry. When our meals came out, we had to send them back because they were cold. It took awhile to get the order. The server said they were remaking each order. Although it was very hot, there was absolutely no flavor in the meal. The service was terrific and they were very attentive. But, this was one restaurant I would avoid if i ever visit Santa Monica.
