My colleague picked this restaurant and I have to admit I went with pretty low expectations. The restaurant was almost empty when we walked past to reserve a table for later and was just as empty when we returned over an hour later so I presumed I was in for a mediocre stab at one of my favourite cuisines. How wrong I was!
As it was my colleague's restaurant choice I deferred to her choice of starter and I rather enjoyed the fresh, Bangkok roll starter that we had. If you do order this (and I recommend it) I suggest you order the small version as we were beginning to feel full after polishing off the large version... I opted for a chicken and vegetable stir-fry with red Thai curry paste, which was very nice with fresh, crunchy vegetables and a nice fiery heat to it. My colleague's spinach and mushroom stir-fry was also very good and, with rice, it was far more than we could manage, which was a good thing, as the Larb Gai I'd greedily ordered (just to try really!) never turned up (nor was it on the bill). House wine was perfectly drinkable and I found the staff attentive and pleasant. It's always nice to be this pleasantly surprised about a meal that you're not looking forward to and I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Bangkok West Thai. I'd happily return and recommend.
