The Lobster is at the base of Santa Monica pier so the view is unbeatable. Not only do you get to watch the water, you also get to see the steady parade of oddballs in the pier area - highly entertaining. It's pricey - $20+ sandwiches - but the food is good and plentiful. The lobster roll and the clam chowder are their standard bearers and are definite must-orders. Don't order lobster though - way too expensive and is flown in from back east. Wait until you're the east coast to get your lobster. Service is very spotty. You'll get a handsome "out of work actor" type for your waiter who knows the menu well and appears attentive but after you order you won't see him again. Food takes well over 1/2 hour to arrive. And they don't even bring it all together. Four of us ordered the clam chowder but they only brought 2 of them - 15 minutes later they brought the other 2 ... Of course the first two were cold by then. Definitely recommended for the experience and decent food but be prepared to spend well over 2 hours there - don't go if you're in a hurry!

I just love the Lobster for so many reasons. I have eaten dinner here twice and came multiple times for drinks/happy hour. My favorite meal here was the Gnocci - but I haven't had a bad meal. Love the food, the service, the location and the view- it cannot be beat. Make a reservation as they get busy on the weekends. They have valet parking as well which is fabulous - you can even leave your car overnight if you drink a little too much :)

Had a fantastic meal in this lively restaurant served by attentive friendly staff. The food is simply cooked but the ingredients are of the highest quality and the end result is excellent. The crab cakes we had as a starter were the best I have ever tasted. To top it all there is the fantastic view over the Santa Monica Pier and beach.

This is a very biased review because we had a spectacular 50th birthday party for my wife ~ 12 years ago, when we had the entire restaurant to ourselves and our guests. What is a credit to The Lobster is that many of the same wonderful staff are still there (Shirley, Dave and Jack), and the quality of the food whether it be the fresh steam or broiled lobster and delicious accompaniments such as Swiss chard, fingerling potatoes or grilled asparagus are superb. Yes, it is pricey, but when you combine great seafood, very attentive staff and top it off with one of the most stunning and romantic views, your dining experience that evening will forever be etched in your memories. The Lobster is THE place to go for an unforgettable evening.

It is never easy to pull together a dinner for 16 people, but The Lobster did a great job. Our group gathered in the front bar and the service was great with servers checking everyone frequently and they all had very upbeat, fun dispositions. We sat in the restaurant, not in a room separate from the activity in the main dining room. One long table, again great service and they gave us menus with about 6 different entrees. Sometimes with a group this large a restaurant wants you to order a set menu. The opportunity for everyone to make their own selection was a hit. One of our group is a vegan...no problem. Everything ran efficiently, order taking, service of salad or soup, entree and desserts. Expensive, yes, but look at the location cost and the view. It doesn't come for free. I would do it again and recommend it for group dinners. The atmosphere is fun. If you are looking for a quiet dinner, probably not your kind of place. Sure was ours.
