This is actually a really good restaurant. They have very good fried rice. They also have other kinds of food that are very rarely found anywhere else. Plus, it has a good view of the airport. Overall, a good restaurant.

Typhoon is very sophisticated but has a laid back cool vibe. It's at the Santa Monica airport, so the parking is easy with the bonus of watching small planes, helicopters and jets land and take off.

In addition, now the owner brings in big bands on some Monday nights, so we get to see world class musicians in a very intimate setting.

The food is always consistantly fantastic. I love the calimari, Thai garlic ribs, goi cuon, honey walnut shrimp, vegetable curry, garlic rice, szeshwan catfish, Mongolian lamb, minced chicken, and pad thai.

Typhoon is my FAVORITE place to have dinner in Los Angeles followed by Melisse, followed by Restaurant 2117 (2117 Sawtelle).

Fun for groups because there's at least one dish to represent each of the major Asian cuisines, fun cocktails and a view of private planes taking off.

The food is consistent, if not excellent. Some safe favorites are the Mongolian lamb, Korean kalbi (short ribs), fried rices, Korean glass noodles, Vietnamese eggrolls, Filipino pork, Burma wings, veggies.

For the more adventurous, there's a whole fish (yum) and a menu section for "insects" -- more accurately, invertebrates. The crickets were served with shoestring potatoes and were a dry, uninspiring affair. Skip the scorpions. They're tiny, you only get two, and they're embedded in shrimp toast. I tasted nothing, although my friend insisted it tasted of evil. Still hoping the worms and bugs will be better, but I'm running out of friends who will try them with me! :)

Nice assortment of candies/mints at host station at the door as you leave.

If you're daring enough to eat bugs, they have a nice selection. The best is the view of the small planes landing and taking off at the Santa Monica airport.
