...and out of all the fast food restaurants this meal was one of the best I had. Judging by the reviews consistency isn't achieved, but for a small place like this you really pays your several dollars and cross your fingers. Last visit I ended up at the Taco place mid-way down the pier, that was pretty miserable.

Good
1.Burger was really delicious, medium though with slight charring to the edges.
2.Staff were clearly happy to be there.
3.View over the pier and people watching through the large windows is great.
4.I'm fussy but didn't notice dirty tables, etc.
5.One of the cheaper burgers.

Bad
1.Ordered a shake at the same time as the burger, this took 5mins to make. They don't seem to use a dedicated machine, instead relying on scooping icecream and blending. Gave up waiting, sat and ate burger and took drink out.

Brilliant location with great service. the food was very good and the prices were very good. A great stop for a family in need of a bite while visiting this area.

The fries were ok, not great. The burger was smothered in things including "secret sauce" so pretty much tasted like thousand island dressing. My fellow diner ordered well done and it was pink enough in the middle to be of some concern. Personally I think it was the "Route 66" which is chocolate ice cream with chunks of chocolate and bits of oreo cookie as well as miniature m&m s. After eating the burgers and a lot of fries, I think that would have done me in.

They are pretty average for food on the pier, which is over priced for what you get. They are rushed on the weekend and it shows in the quality of the food and the service. Many of the locals I saw would buy fries and open up their packs with their chicken or other home made picnic at the beach foods.

Didn't expect much when going to Pier Burger and was pleasantly surprised - standard burger I had was very good and the fries were huge. The place seemed a bit dirty but I guess that's just a part of this spot's atmosphere - vintage, dirty and still pretty nice.

I would rate the restaurant only 2 stars, but its location got it another 2 stars.

Food was average and as others mentioned tables were dirty. I don't mind those tables being dirty - i wiped mine down; expected since there is so much foot traffic. Positive about the menu - limited and standard choices. Tip: If you don't want too much fries, get a regular fries (half pound) to share between 2 to 3 people.

Restaurant is located right across from where the sign indicates that Route 66 ends! Sparing cloudy evenings would bring beautiful sunset views. In short, location, location, location!

Other tip: I was in town for business and had only about 3 hours in between. I started from the Hollywood sign, drove 101S to I 10 South to Santa Monica Pier to car rental return to LAX. All in under 3 hours. But if you truly want to explore and experience the pier, give it a good 5 to 6 hours.
