Tucked away through an off-street walkway that leads to a charming dining courtyard and waterfall fountain, Brick and Mortar is one of the true neighborhood gems along Santa Monica's famed Main Street. Leo, the owner, has turned the former wine-tasting venue into one of L.A.'s elite gastro-pub eateries. There are dining tables both inside and out and on weekend nights the place is wall to wall packed with trendy hipsters who go for the huge selection of wine and micro-brewery beer (and also th full bar). But by far the star of the show is the burger -- onion marmalade+cheddar+lettuce+tomato+horseradish mayo | brioche. It's a handful and mouthful of munchy heaven. As a trend-setter, there's also vegan and veggy stuff, like the margherita pizza, broccolini and an array of salads. Fine dining too as their "Mains" include short rib stroganoff, flat iron steak, wild mushroom gnocchi ... just go to the website. If you're watching your weight I'd avoid the warm molten chocolate lava cake with ice cream.
